I received a 12-13 card trade offer today from a member on this site. When I looked at the trade and opened the member's profile, he had a quote about keeping trades in the USA only. My profile clearly shows that I am in Canada so I was wondering why he had offered me a trade. I therefore politely messaged him advising him I was in Canada but that the trade could still go through for less than $2 postage. I asked that he let me know if he wanted to proceed with the trade.

The next thing I knew, the trade was withdrawn.  No message from the member explaining why or accepting his error for proposing a trade outside his comfort borders. Nothing.  Just withdrawn.  Thanks but no thanks; no not even that.  HE is the one who proposed the trade.  You would think that in a polite world, he would have at least messaged me to say that he didn't realize (read my profile first) I was in Canada.  Nope. Nothing.

In the home where I grew up, we were taught to be polite and say sorry if we had erred. I guess he grew up in a different world.

Good thing you checked his profile and let him know you were in Canada.  Who knows what would have happened had you accepted and only then did he realize you were in Canada.

Been there, had that happen. It was a 15 card trade. I have learned through experience that you can send 18 cards using a row cut out of an old 9 pocket page. Just put 3 cards in a penny, then in the sleeve of the pages. 9 a row, 2 rows will go as a PWE and protected quite nicely. Postage would have been a PWE from US to Canada. 

I understand some not wanting to trade across the imaginary line we call the 49th parallel, as if you hit a mid range trade it may not be worth the postage. But hey, 90% of the trades I have, or other Canadian non-hockey collectors, are international. Just found the safe tricks and postal rules to still make international trading most of the time feasible. 

And yes, it would have been good form for that member to say, "Sorry not comfortable with international trade" or something of the like, but I guess stereotypically saying sorry is just for us  hosers! 

Manners - only seem to be taught north of the 49th. Shame.

As one of the south of the border residents I'll have to apologize for my fellow countryman's manners. Please understand it's not acceptable behavior and hopefully not the norm. Besides, where else in the world can you catch monster Northern Pike like you can in northern Manitoba. And of course, my favorite band from where else but north of the border.... Rush! 

Do you use any cardboard or just send them in the pwe as described? I like the 9 pocket page idea just curious if cardboard can be added or does that effect weight or thickness issues.

I haven't added cardboard often. I have if it is really "Thin" if that makes sense. Say 4 cards with the double up in the middle. I have found that when you get to multiple cards it becomes rigid and self protective (at least from my end...never heard a complaint yet). For 3 cards or less I use a top loader inside a dollar store Christmas Card or Thank you card.

 I wish I didn't screw up in the first place to have to apologize as much as I do.

Seems more and more people just don't want to interact with others. Easier to ignore you than face whatever it is.

Yes that is so true now-a-days. =( Interaction is going the way of the white rhino, rubber trees and bananas. Sad but true.

There's no valid reason to not trade outside the USA. Some of my more enjoyable trades have come from much farther afield than Canada. I've traded with every continent except South America and Antarctica of course. And I would trade with a South American collector, if I ever "meet" one online.
