I'd like to propose a change to our membership profiles to categorize us as to purpose for being part of this community. I'll get to the point.
I'd like to propose that members be identified in these ways, and thus be given access to privileges to participate to match their roles, such as:
- Members who only track their collection;
- Members who only sell;
- Members who trade
I'm certain there are other variations, but I believe you get the gist of my suggestion.
Why this? Mainly because I get Recent Matches from both Want and Trade/Sell Lists who aren't interested in trading. I'd rather spend time finding out that certain member has some wants that match my needs, not match with only those who sell or are tracking their own collections. If someone only wants to track their collections, then they don't need access to the Transactions since that's not their purpose for this site. If they change their mind, they can always update their profile.
Any thoughts?

i understand what you're saying, i too get frustrated when i finally come across the trade listing matching up only to find out the person hasn't been active for months on end. With that, the options are there in your profile (edit profile at the bottom) to allow your trade list or collection, etc to be viewalbe or not. this should take you out of that category.
I think maybe an * (asterik) should be placed next to the members name that is currently active and open to trades. this way when you go to the listings on each card or set, you can quickly identify who is available or not

Good idea. I have it my quote, if anyone reads it, that I am only interested in selling. Good idea.

I would love to see a check box option for anyone who has things in their "For Sale/Trade" collection of "will sell only", "will trade only", or "either...make me an offer". And as for those who have not logged into the site in several months (or years), I don't know what to do about that. Sometimes I'll propose a trade anyways in hopes that they are at least still getting e-mails to that same address and it might jog their memory about our site.

I have to chime in on this one.........I see what you are saying Sportscommish and your point is a valid one. However,......there is another side.
For the past month or 2 maybe a bit longer, my profile has been basically blank. You can see my collection, but I believe thats it.
In the meantime, I have added to my sale/trade list.
My intent is to go back to trading in the next few months, if not sooner. I even posted an update thread. ( my collection is under going a MAJOR overhaul )
My point is ....things change from time to time.

Right. We should be able to switch between the three categories. A while back, I really wasn’t interested in trading, and said so in my profile, but still got proposals. I’m fine with trading now, so having the option to change our status would be great.

I'm obviously coming from the perspective as a trader. To me that's the most economical way to get the cards you want.
Yes, the options are there to allow viewing of our collection and to match us up, but I want to take it further in that I don't want to be matched up with someone who's not wanting to trade.
I agree that we as members should control what our purpose is for the site. Just to be clear I'm not proposing disallowing membership that only wishes to use the site to catolog their collection or list their wants for their own purposes without a desire to trade or purchase using the transaction tools. Under my proposal someone like engine614 can adjust their profile to be viewed as a possible trade partner, or a seller, or simply as someone keeping track of their collection, and if they change their minds can make the change. The way I see it now, that's not necessarily the way the system is set up. It's not so much how you use the system as it pertains to the Recent Matches.
For example, today as on most days, I matched up with their Want List, but it's obvious they don't trade. Maybe they will someday, but at present they don't, and I'd prefer not being matched to them.
Maybe that was the intent of controlling your profile information, but I don't see it working that way. And it's not just with new members, there are those who've been members for years who set up a Want List that matches me up with them, but again, we're really not a match since only one of us (me) trades.

If it's an optional thing for members to put on their profile, it's a good thing.
I wouldn't make it mandtory for all users through, that's getting close to "papers please" (slippery slope, I know).

Good idea; but we would need to be able to check off all, one, two etc profiles Who knows maybe there is a member with none. lol. I like using the site to track, I like trading, I have bought and sold, I have sent "freebies. So it would have to be setup with multiple options, like checkboxes..
