It appears one admits to be as what I call a hack. The other has discussed it with me and I hope he understands my POV. I am all about perfection in presentation and when I can improve upon somebody elses shortcomings I do. If I come across a card that has only the front, most of the time I replace the extisting scan with mine as well as adding the back. Why? It proves that I actually own the card as it is also in my collections. Just frustates me to see a card image uploaded yet 0 in collections. I find that very poor use of one's time, thats all.

I do like the girls in the colorful underwears, though. I've been wondering who they are for years.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

ranfordfan, I don’t think we can assume just because no one has it in their collection now that someone didn’t have it at one time.
Personally I’m grateful for all the scans. I’d give scanning a try but I don’t think I can do it to a perfectionist’s expectations. So one day when I feel brave enough to try please don’t be mean. I might cry. lol

LOL good one, I cry alot too but thats because they ALL pick on me. Its difficult to expalin, I dont outright hate someone for what the ydo here but I am allowed an opinion that is all. You make a valid point for sure. However if you owned the card and were scanning it in would you say "nah the side with all his bio information isnt important enough for me to put in the DB so I wont bother.: LOL I talk to myself hence the way it was typed up. Bottom line is if Admin is good with, I am good with. But there is no rule not allowing a whining baby aka ME. =D

I just think there are a lot of passionate people who value this site because it's such an amazing resource. And like me, probably take meticulous care in aligning images properly, removing specs of dirt from the scanner bed, and cropping to perfection. So when other images are added that fall short of those expectations, sometimes it makes you wonder if it is really worth the time and effort to continue contributing.
So while adding images benefits you and other collectors, I think outside image sources that are not your own (like ebay), can fall short of the expectations listed above. Because I'm pretty sure ebay sellers didn't scan their cards with the thought in mind someone would be using it for a historical database. They're certainly not centered and copying a copy always results in poorer image quality than the original.
I guess I'm saying if quality examples can be found on ebay, have at it. But save the rest of us from having to submit IRs to remove poor quality, crooked, overcropped, penny sleeve/ hard case reflected, photographed junk.
This isn't directed at anyone, just an observation.

This database should be about more than "what's in my collection". It should be about documenting the card collecting hobby. The existence of many cards that are listed in a variety of "reputable" published checklists is questionable. The presence of images can provide some proof of existence. The absence of images can create the opposite effect, where the existence of a card is questioned. There are several cards that I've been trying to acquire, but have never seen a copy for sale or even an image in more than years of searching. I question the existence of some of those cards. Others I've seen only once in decade, so I know they exist, but others would suggest they don't, because they have never "seen" them. The presence of images on this site can help to provide that proof.
Furthermore, many cards these days are limited to 50, or 30, or 10, or whatever. The existence of these cards may not be in question, but there may never be a TTCD member who owns the card or is willing to scan and upload the images. If we don't upload the images when we get the chance, we may never see the card again.
My belief is that any card without images should have them added by whomever is willing to do it, provided the images meet the database guidelines. Sometimes only the front is available; it's better than nothing. Ownership of the card or showing that it's "in your collection" is irrelevant. It's not about points. It's about creating the most accurate and complete card database as we can.
This is my opinion on the subject. Others obviously do not agree, and have shared their opinion on the matter. I felt I should share mine.

~Rob~ Hockey set collector including inserts, ERR, COR, VAR. Knowledgeable about 1968-69 to 1994-95 hockey. All 1990 and newer cards for trade are NRMT. Expect the same in return. 1989 and older are assigned a grade. Everything on my trade list is available for sale. Reasonable prices based on condition. If it's not on my tradelist, it's not available.
