Comparing 2018 Topps with its parallel sets, I find the below card #s have multiple PIDs assigned. There may be other errors, as my quick check would not flag those instances where all 2018 Topps+parallel cards are assigned to the same, incorrect PID. Some of these PIDs need a lot of work, like Francisco Mejia, where it looks to me like 148 of the 150 cards assigned to 166417 should be 69496.
I'm not sure how PIDs are originally assigned to the cards, but it is there a way to improve the process to make it more likely that the correct PID (or no PID) is assigned rather than an incorrect one? This issue will only get worse with time, as more cards are entered to the DB and more new PIDs are entered for people who already share a name with an existing PID. If there isn't a better process when assigned, is there a better way to fix these errors than going one card at a time?
(Apologies If this is already a well-known issue. I did a quick forum search but didn't see anything related exactly to this.)
Thanks,
Josh

I know that Admin can make a specific PID the "likeliest" match for shared names. I've requested it before.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Josh,
This is some great work, but I can't tell from your list which one is the right one and which is the worng one, and which cards have the wrong ones. You can help by either re-assigning the correct PIDs to the ones that have the incorrect PID (if you have that level of access), or by reporting each card through IRs. Then those with the proper permission levels can get these fixed.
As David pointed out, a note to Admin to let him know which PID is the the one that is currently getting cards so he can make it the "first in line". That could help. I know several of us have sorted out multiple names like this in the past. It's sometimes an ongoing battle. Thanks for bringing this up and hopefully you'll be able to help us clean this up.

Player ID? I think. It refers to the unique number assigned to each name in the Database. Here's the snippet from the FAQ:

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Person IDentifier. If you know anything about databases, it's the identifying key for that individual.

Thanks. I've worked on all of these with the exception of Mejia, and that one should be pretty straightforward when i get some time. (The Chris Youngs and Josh Fieldses were a bit like working jigsaw puzzles. Luckily I love jigsaw puzzles)
I'm a bit hesitant to change default PIDs until I understand how those are selected in the first place. Does a "New Name" entered automatically become the default PID for that name? It seems like for most of these that was the case. Also, while changing the default would help make sure <most> cards are originally assigned to the correct PID, I think it may make it tougher to dig through them to find the ones that should be somewhere else, like when a new minor leaguer shows up with the same name. Some of these guys are nearing the ends of their careers, and though they should be the default for 2019 and maybe 2020, there will be someone else after that.

I've been focusing a lot of my attention on this issue as well, using Baseball-Reference (particular the "Minors" pages) as a guide when necessary. Other sports need attention, too, of course. ("Reggie Jackson" was kind of a nightmare to deal with.) It would be nice to be able to change the default PID, at least at a certain access level. It definitely does appear that the default PID is whichever PID was created most recently.
