I'm glad you are here! I came about 5 minutes short of dying myself in 2013- literally, my family was told 5 minutes later and it would have been too late.
Thanks! I put a lot of work into what I do and it's nice to know people are reading it. I need to post a small update to the PhotoScape tutorial but really just to address the new scanner I got a few months ago. (I wasn't going to, but it was on sale!)

Rainbow foils are tricky, I haven't really figured out how to do 2015 or 2016 Topps ones, but refractors are a different story. With refractors, I just don't close the lid, there is a lamp by my scanner providing a source of light (I think that helps) and the results are a nice scan with a blue shimmer, better than making them look like the regular Chrome cards. Here are a few of mine...
That trick does work with some foil cards, just not the past two years of Topps' main release.

Bringing back an old post with something I discovered today. For 'rainbow' cards or other cards with a shiny surface, most cards have a blue hue to them (assuming it's light reflecting off of the card during scanning). To get rid of the blue hue, I found a trick online that I tried myself and it seems to be working (for me at least). The blue hue disappears when scanning cards on a 45 degree angle rather than square. I admit I was skeptical when I read it and decided to try it and see. I have included two different links below from the same scanner, same settings, same set, just placed the card at a different angle.
Card placed square on the scanner (card looks blue):

Today's scan, Card placed at a 45 degree angle (blue hue is gone):

Hope others have the same results as I do when scanning cards. Thank you.

You mean just rotate it 45 degrees from square? Or prop it up at an angle?

Rotate 45 degrees from square with the card flat on the scanning surface.
