This one is out of my league and I would like some help on this please. I obtained this Ty Cobb card for a buck at a garage sale and would like to know how to tell if it is a reprint or counterfeit. Card stock seems to be OK, I put a black light on the card both front and back and there are no bright spots appearing so bleach is not an issue. Is there anything else I can check short of sending it in to somebody like Beckett to authenticate. My doubts are I have never seen one this centered.

Passes my eye test. I would send it in for authentication. Either authentic or a very good counterfeit.

Look at the card under a magifying glass if you have one and look at how it is printed you should not see any dots of ink but continious lines and color. Also compare the back to the card backs here and on COMC to see the color of Sweet Caporal on other T206s.

Looks like a nice specimen...but the front and back centering seem off to me.

Kari I am buying pre-1987 Non Sports. Let's discuss if you have any for sale, even if not listed here. --------------------------------------- There are no bad days.

It looks good, but looks can be deceiving. Seems like you have started pretty well with checking cardstock and black light. Use a loop or microscop and check out the ink patterns and any worn away areas. If it turns out to be real and is authetnicated, congratulations on your amazing find.

Being a skeptic, I'm, er, skeptical. Only from a too good to be true standpoint. The corners are sharp; the centering is really strong. Just not convinced that it's legit. But, like Corky said, if it's the real McCoy, congratulations. It's every card collector's dream.

For all of those that have replied, thank you very much for taking the time. The ink checks out so it's going to Beckett for authenticating. A special thanks to my friend Jay O'Neill for taking the time to look this up.

Let us know the result. Good luck.
And, yes, Mr. O’Neill provided a useful read.
