This HAS to be the 1998 card, since it mentions 28 wins including the '97 Daytona 500. The copyright is misleading and not always accurate to the date of publication- in this case it looks like the date the card was designed. Sometimes the copyright is for when the deal was reached, not when the card was published, as well. Considering this doesn't have the Hendrick copyright info, I'm guessing this was not licensed in any way.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. I do believe there are some 1988 Star Co sets with a 1983 copyright on the back but stats through 1987.

You want confusing copyright dates?
Topps Non Sport Planet of the Apes cards. Many many people especially Ebay sellers get very confused with them specifically because of the copyright dates. For the original movie Topps made a 44 card set n 1969 with a copyright of 1967 (copyright of the movie characters, images) the copyright date is in roman numerals which ads to the confusion for those who were never taught how to identify Roman numerals or figure them out. The backs had black lettering on a green background. Then in 1975 Topps released a 66 card set of the short lived Planet of the Apes TV show. The fronts use the same exact design and coloring as the movie set and is an homage to the movie set, the backs have puzzle pieces that takes up 2/3 of the back with the other 1/3 having a short writeup (usually of the scene depicted on the front). The copyright is 1967 the date of when the rights to use the material was aquired instead of the 1975 manufacturing date. This confuses people who don't do any research or bother to notice the difference between the TV characters and the Movie characters. OK so it is difficult to identify the dirty apes since they all look alike.

That's... that's racist? Is that racist? Are the apes from Planet of the Apes a race?

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but this set just hit my radar today. I was trying to make sense of the hodge-podge of "Big League Cards" seen on eBay, COMC, etc., and things just weren't adding up. There are a few sets around, but they seem to be mostly single card issues, and they are from locations all over the country according to the indica at the bottom of the card backs. I'm wondering if "Big League Cards" was even involved with the production of any of the cards. Did "Big League Cards" simply create a template that was available for local photographers and print shops to use when making trading cards for their customers? This would explain the apparent disparity between the copyright date and the cards' release dates. If this is the case, then it is just the template that is copyrighted, not the end product card. That would be particularly true of this 1998 Maynards set since it is apparent that Creative Images used pictures from other sources that they could not copyright themselves.
Does anyone have any more direct knowledge on the subject?

Big League Cards was founded in the '80's by former Yankees pitcher Jim Bouton (he was also one of the founders of Big League Chew). For a fee you could fill out a form (with name, bio, etc) & send in a photo and they'd send you roughly 25 cards of yourself or family members. Instead, quite a few people tried to send in photos of athletes and celebs (& while many were rejected, many snuck through).
