i have a couple Bo Jackson cards that look to be from the same set as the 2 currently listed as 1986 Time Out Sports Memphis Chicks. One I have is a Silver and one is a Gold.
Can anyone confirm they belong there and if possble, can someone also all them in? I can upload images after.
Thanks! Chad

It is my understanding that the only legitimate Bo Jackson card that came with the original Memphis Chicks team set is the one featuring a photo in the dugout, like all the rest of the team. No one really knows the origins of the cards with the different photos. The grading companies don't seem to have any problems with them, but then they have graded a lot of known counterfeits and fakes in the past.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

So now I have to worry about counterfeit 1980’s cards!!! Since most the cards in the 80’s & 90’s are almost worthless I thought there might be an area of safety there.
As for companies grading fakes...OMG! Now what are those that live so far from a shop supposed to do. Road trip I guess. It’s 83 miles round trip to my closet shop...nice guy but it always looks like he’s about to go out of business any moment and more than half the time there isn’t anything I collect in his shop.

If you are asking me then you are in big trouble.

I have both of these as well
sounds like they may fit in the overall broader category of Broder cards of the time period (which for those not familiar with the term, are not fake but are not liscensed)

Several points:
1 - These cards are not part of this set and should not be listed with this set.
2 - These cards are in a real gray area between fakes and unlicensed. Since they used different photos, it isn't a replica (complete fake) of the card, however, they used the same design layout, which is a vilation of copyrights. Technically, these cards are not legal.
3 - Many cards of the 80s were conterfeited as their value at one point was VERY high (the 1984 Donruss Mattingly & the 1986 Donruss Canseco are 2 that I remember being conterfeited, as well as the Star Jordan rookie - got to see some of them up close).
4 - BradLevi - you have to go 83 miles to your "closet shop" - sorry to hear that. The price we pay....

The poster child for counterfeit 1980s cards is probably the 1985 Chong Modesto A's Mark McGwire card. According to Beckett, there were only 1700 total sets printed of that 1985 Chong Modesto A's team set. 500 initial sets with the errors, 500 corrected sets (slightly off center) and finally 700 corrected and centered sets, the last reprinted from uncut sheets, rather than the original plates or negatives.
Yet somehow, the PSA registry lists over 9,000 graded copies of that card. And that is just PSA. I can't get to the Beckett or SGC sites at the moment, but there are probably a couple thousand more there. Even taking into account cracking and re-submitting, there is no way that accounts for the total number.
In this particular case, it was a very easily faked card, created with very a simple printing process back in 1985. But the the numbers aside, the telling thing is how difficult it is to find any of the other cards in the set. The market is flooded with McGwires, so you would think there should be an equal amount of the other cards available. Yet it took me nearly 5 years of looking to find the Steve Howard card for my collection. There is a single copy of most of the rest of the set on COMC, now, but they haven't been there very long.

if you look at Bo Jackson's 1989 & 1990 cards, there are a lot of 'unlicensed' cards listed. for these 2 examples i listed, if they are not part of that actual set, wouldn't these also fall under that same thing and be listed as unlicensed?
