Does anybody know why the cards numbered 1 - 22 have the date and manufacturer on the bottom of the cards but the cards numbered 23 - the end don't have the date and manufacturer on them?

1-22 were released in Series 1, 23-44 in Series 2. If I had to guess, it would be Topps' quality control missing it.

So you don't think that there are others out there that have the date and what-not on them?

I've checked mine and they are like the scans. Present in the Series 1 cards and missing in the Series 2 ones.

I'd have to actually look at my cards to confirm this thought, but could it possibly be that cards released in packs were different from cards in the redemption sets?! This would seem like a perfect way for Topps to have differentiated the two versions if they wanted to do so.

Why would they leave the year and manufacturer off of the card?  How would you know what year the card was from if you didn't know the set to begin with? That seems kind of weird.

I can't really answer that, BUT 1993 was the first year that Topps made the Black Gold set. I know they did it with MLB and NFL that year. Not sure about NBA or any other sport. MLB was first. The NFL set has completely white borders on the backs of the cards. The copyright and such was inside of the printed info box on the back. There wasn't room for that in most of the MLB info boxes.

Yes, there was an NBA version in the 1993-94 set. I don't have enough to answer your question though Teresa.

...can't answer the question, but I made sure to add both the 1993 and 1994 insert sets to my collection.
