Good for you on giving the kid the last box of cards you were holding. This hobby is all about the kids has been since my own childhood but we all know once the Milleneals enter into the hobby the hobby changed extreamly for vlaue only with eBay, card shows conventions etc.. its all about the vlaue Oh can't forget the slab world where big value cards cater only to those money bag collectors like Vegas Dave and others as an example ( i own no slab cards). I still hold my PC to its tradition I grew up with buy cards build binders, build master sets if possible all for the fun of it, hell with the value; each of my binders would sell for $ 30.00 to $ 40.00 per because I would sell them for that price. Anyway getting back to my point this is a kids hobby if we (ceolectors) do not bring in the kids either are own or others we will see this hobby disappear within the next 10 years. Evey time I'm at Walmart I will watch if any kids looking for baseball cards who don't have the money but wants the card I will give them a full set of doubles for them to put into their own binders. Anyway I think you get my point.

It was a business the moment someone printed a card. 

And I’ve had plenty of rants about the state of the hobby and inserts and grading and variations and thousands of cards of the same player. 

But in the end, any collection is what you make of it. It’s as much of a business as you let it be. And it will always be possible to continue collecting in ways you enjoy.
