As a Reds fan I’m thrilled. The prospects we gave up are okay by me. As a young man, Homer Bailey gave me many fond memories but his time as a Red was up.
To add Puig to replace Hamilton in the lineup and Kemp to fill in where needed, plus adding Wood to the rotation and Farmer to the 40 man roster for what they gave up?
I did a happy dance when the news broke today.

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Of course it’s hard to tell in December but my initial thoughts are that Schebler gets the nod over Kemp for the most part (read: most games). However, if it works out the other way I wouldn’t be surprised either.
No matter how you slice it, there’s an odd man out. That situation can be strategized though, and a four man outfield set-up isn’t the worst problem to have. Schebler is a lefty, Kemp a righty. Wouldn’t surprise me at all to see them start against righties and lefties, respectively, with a great option for pinch hitting for your pitcher late regardless of who comes off the bench.

Central division gonna be real interesting, that's for sure. I'm looking forward to next season already.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

The trade doesn't make sense without roster spot and salary considerations. Trades like this make sense to me now, but when I was I kid I wouldn't have understood this. I worry what very young fans think of trades like this. Baseball should be careful not to discourage them. I think baseball needs to draw in & keep young fans in order to continue its legacy. I imagine Puig and maybe Kemp were heros of many young Dodger fans. So they're looking at this trade saying who did we back? Huh? Oh well, maybe the Dodgers will get Harper later and they'll be happy again.

Oh chvlDm, I remember being upset when the Cardinals traded Keith Hernandez for Neil Allen and Rick Ownbey, a year after winning the 1982 World Series. But that's just part of baseball. That might have also been when my Dad explained to me what cocaine is, and that drugs are bad.

I talked to my sister's boyfriend about the trade on Christmas Day. He's a life-long Dodgers fan and he said the same thing I think (even though I'm older than him). If they don't get Bryce Harper in free agency, they wasted a bunch of time and talent for nearly nothing. He said Kemp was on the way out anyway (I agree), Puig was a character for the fans but not always a team player (I couldn't disagree on that), and the other players weren't a big loss. But he also said the players added from Cincy weren't a big gain (and I agree with that too). So if LAD doesn't get Harper, it's a COMPLETE bust of a trade for them. But they are still set up to get a bunch of good FA's if they miss Harper OR a bunch of good draft picks over the next couple of years.
On the flip side, a Reds fan that I know is thrilled about the trade. I think he was concerned when the Cards got Goldschmidt, but he was much less concerned after the Reds/Dodgers trade happened. It will certainly be a much more interesting season in the NL Central in 2019! What are the Cubs and Brewers going to do to combat what STL and Cincy have already done? I can't wait to see it play out!
