I'd probalby avoid the file transfer cable.
If this is a 1 time deal, or at least rarely and you have a fairly big USB drive and/or external HD, I'd just do that.
If you have a fairly simple home network and the computers are also home computers (not corporate ...aka not highly managed by folks other than you), you could probalby also just share the other computer's drive and then with both of you on the same network you can just drag/drop over as you see fit. ... and you shouldn't need TeamViewer (or any other remote desktop to do that).
As for TeamViewer/RemoteDesktop -- if you actually want/need to physically be working on the desktop and with programs that are only on the second computer then it's worth it. If you are just connecting computers to share folders and such across the same home network, I'd just use the internal home networking available with Win10 and share the drives like I suggested in first paragraph. I don't have experience with TeamViewer . I have always just used the Remote Desktop offered by Microsoft. Which I think you can configure in Win10 wihtout too much problem, but you do want to be safe with any of the remote desktops if you do want to get access from another network, because it does open places where security could break down.
