i know it's not cards and don't think it should or would be listed here on the database, but came across these slides from an eBay seller.  

Looks like they have various players and team sets from multiple sports over multiple years.  From what I gather they were slides used to show player images during television Sports broadcasts.  

Just wondering if anyone has any knowledge of these they might want to share.   

They seem pretty interesting to me, but also fairly costly it seems for many of them.

As far as I know, those would have been distributed in Press Kits. Slides were the highest resolution format available at the time.  These would have been the 'stock photos' that TV, newspapers and magazines would have used when running stories about specific people.

Interesting stuff.  Had to be so much more time consuming and cumbersome than a laptop with files!

If you weren't around in the 80s, you have no idea! Slides were also used many times for card production (we used them at Star). We (my wife & I) picked up some hockey ones a while back, and we only got a couple individual players (at most), and they ran us about $5 each (before shipping) and this was about 15-20 years ago. The prices on the auction you linked actually doesn't seem too bad.

I was around but was as an impressionable youth taking it all in.  😀 

thanks for the info.   Unrelated, I think your wife is much more sympathetic to sports than mine.  I can only imagine what my wife expression would be if I got some of these and broke out the projector in basement for an evening of slide viewing!
