Last night. Opening night in the FHL. Danville Dashers vs Carolina Thunderbirds. We raised our championship banner. We won 7-1. "We" being Danville. I bought my championship shirt for a very reasonable $10. I think the crowd was 1400. I think I have motivation to go to more games than usual this season. Can't wait to go back tonight.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Just got home from more hockey. Same 2 teams. We (Danville) lost 3-1. Even a Carolina fan said he couldn't believe that was the same Thunderbirds team that lost by 6 last night. I got there earlier and parked in the good lot, right beside a dumpster where i watched a raccoon looking for food for a few minutes. The construction worker won the halloween costume contest (i preferred the astronaut). Puck #135 was the winning Chuck-a-Puck. I didn't hear the pot for the 50/50 drawing. My friend Peter was a no-show. That one girl left early. I ate a hot dog and popcorn (big spender here). Thats about all i have to report.

Just got home from Pinty's Grandslam of Curling. Watched both the Men's and Women's Semi-finals. Gushue and Elin in the final for the men and Jones and another team ffrom Manitoba for the women. It was Halloween night there too, there were several in our row of seats (all WFG tickets so my wife's fellow employees) I sat beside Elvira and a SteamPunk dude. There was also a witch, Cruella de Ville and a Pink Flamingo. I had a single beer, the 50/50 was just under 4G (never won) and all was over by 9:30 PM. Sorry David but no autograph, your Swiss cutie got beat out yeseterday and was not even there for me to hassle. Was my first live curling experience and was truly impressed and enjoyed myself.

Nice match report, Ranford. Sounds like a fun night. I was almost tricked into wearing a costume to the hockey, when it turned out it was a contest for kids.

I've been home from the NASCAR race in Martinsville, VA for several hours now, but am still pumped up. Mostly b/c I finally got warm again! It was so cold there today. You Canucks will probably laugh, but here in the Mid-Atlantic US, mid-40's (Fahrenheit) with a 10-15mph constant wind is very cold in October. This was like a January day to us. I sat there in my seat for almost four hours watching the race. Once I got to my seat, I didn't leave it until about half an hour after the race ended. At least it was very entertaining (esp. at the end), but I really wish I had bundled up a bit more. By the end, my legs were shivering and my fingers were numb. I had long jeans on and a pair of gloves, but they didn't protect from that wind. I was completely comfortable from neck to waist throughout the race, but that wind cut right through my jeans. Once the sun set, I put on my toboggan (knit cap) over my regular hat to warm my ears. I didn't have another pair of gloves to go over the ones I had put on halfway through the race though.
Weather aside, the race was fantastic and I'm happy I was there! It REALLY got exciting in the final two dozen laps of the 500-lap race. The track is just over 1/2 of a mile and the cars run a lap in about 20 seconds. I think there were still 36 of the 40 cars running at the end. The carnage in the final dozen laps led to the race actually taking 505 laps to determine a winner. My favorite driver didn't win (like he did last year) and his teammate got spun out while leading with very few laps to go. I was actually rooting for the teammate to get his 1st career Cup Series win before he was taken out. The winner was a driver I collect though, so I'm happy with that. The winner is also a teammate of the prick that spun out the dominate car of the 2nd half of the race. That crowd was insane for the last 20 laps of the race!!! There seemed to be only 3 groups of people rooting for a driver, while there were still at least 10-12 drivers with a shot at winning.
I'll have to post some pics soon. And certainly the videos I took! Maybe my videos can get more of you interested in NASCAR. My YouTube page does have one video of a single lap filmed in HD from the front row in Turn 1 from last year's race. This year, I sat in Turn 3 and 16 rows up from the track. I took 2 videos of a single lap from my seat. One is wide-angle showing almost the whole track at once and the other is zoomed in on just Turn #3 for a full lap. I'll try to get these posted Monday night. Right now, I am trying to watch the Panthers NFL game that I didn't get to see earlier.

Sounds like a fun day, Spaz. Any event that allows use of the word "Carnage" is a winner with me!

I don't know how to emoticon my chuckles at your reply! Carnage was the only word to describe the end of the race and it happened a few times in the last several laps! If the weather had been warmer, I would say it was a Top-3 day in my life of live sports events.
For the record:
#1 - 08/2013 - STL Cardinals win at home over PIT Pirates 4-3 in the 14th inning (game lasted 5 hrs. 7 min.)
#2 - 10/2016 - Martinsville Speedway NASCAR Cup Series race - Jimmie Johnson wins the race to advance to the Championship round and later wins the final race to win his 7th Cup Championship.
#3 - 12/2008 - WWE Event - The Undertaker defeats The Big Show in a steel cage match, along with several other really good matches.
#4 - 10/2015 - My first NASCAR event - Matt Crafton wins the CWTS race.
This race would probably be #5 in my event list for sports though! WAIT, I saw Jim Thome (MLB player) hit his first career professional HR back in 1990 as a member of the Burlington Indians and I also saw Manny Ramirez hit a home run as a member of the same team the next year. Those might trump the race yesterday! IF Chase Elliott had won his 1st Cup race, it would easily bump up to #3 though. I still had a great time at the track today and want to go to many more in the future.

My #1 would be the FHL Commissioners Cup final, deciding game, when Danville Dashers won the Cup, in April. Honestly, one of the 5 best days of my life, sports or otherwise.

Right now. Danville Dashers vs Port Huron Prowlers. Tied 1-1 in 2nd intermission. Not really feeling it tonight. Maybe gonna take a break for a while after this game.
EDIT: Correction. We're up 2-1. I completely forgot we scored with :04 left in the 2nd. Just not into it.
