RIP Roy - will always fondly remember the great years as a Jay, and his pitching dominance throughout his career. A really good guy from all accounts too.

Unbelievable. I'm still in shock.
I'll always remember my first time going to see a Blue Jays game at the then SkyDome. It was September 1998 and I went early to try to get an autograph or two. As I descended the aisle toward the field on the 3rd base side, I saw two rookies whom I didn't recognize signing. I decided to go to the one on the left first, who turned out to be a catcher named Kevin Brown who never had more than I cup of coffee in the bigs. As I turned to approach the other rookie the players started heading to the dugout. It was then that I caught his name on the back of his jersey: Halladay.

This is the saddest I've felt about any sports-related death in my lifetime. He never got to pitch for the Jays in the playoffs, but no fan could ever dare pin the team's shortcomings on Doc. Jays fans were so happy for Roy when we got to send him to a contending Phillies squad, and damn did he ever impress for them with a pair of no-hitters, one of which was in the playoffs.
I'm not sure if he's Hall worthy or not, but I remember having no doubt in the Jay's chances to win when he took the mound. I'm sure the Jays will put his number in the Level of Excellence if not outright retire it, and will wear a Doc patch to honor him.

Hope both teams honor him next season.

I was in my car when this was announced and my jaw dropped. I realized about 2 minutes later it was still open and I just felt bad. Halladay never pitched for the Yanks, but I always really liked him whenever he went out and rooted for him every one of his starts. He also was a stud during my early fantasy years. He was way too young and a class act. You didn't have to be a fan of his teams to be a fan of him. A sad day and a sad loss.

One of the true great guys of the last 30 years. I loved to watch him pitch as he never wasted time on the mound. One of the best games I ever watched was with him and Mark Buehrle who also ptiched the same way. Game lasted just over 2 hours (I think 2:02). Well pitched and well played by the defence behind both pitchers as they were kept on their toes.
In his quiet way, Doc taught many young players all ofthe right things on and off the field. The baseball world will miss him.
