Shohei Ohtani Forum

I picked up a few packs of Topps Heritage today (I like the nostalgia) and managed to pull the SP Shohei Ohtani card.  It has the RC logo, but since it is not officially part of the base set (or is it) is it considered a real rookie card? (Or the real Topps rookie card, since he had cards issued for his JPL play?)

I had no idea it was a SP until I started scanning the codes on the backs of the cards and it jumped out at me.  It's cleaarly overpriced now, and I did consider selling it, but I decided to hold on to it as a curiosity.

His base card is actually a variation of Zach Davies #17 card.

I was talking to the sport card manager at my LCS this afternoon and I guess that Ohtani will have a base card in High Number featuring him as a hitter.

Ironically enough, I got the Davies card in the same set of packs!  

So he'll have a Topps Series 2 card?  (Is that what you mean by high number here?)

Heritage High Number

Yes...Topps has confirmed that his first Heritage base card will be in Heritage High Number and his first base card in general will be in Series 2.

As hot as that card is, I'd sell that thing and buy it back for 25% of the price in the offseason.
