A quick question for those hockey collectors who have been at it longer than I have. I know in 18/19 and 19/20 they changed the name of this running insert set to Shooting Stars. Both of those Shooting Stars sets are broken out into 5 separate sets based on positions (Centers, Right Wing, etc.) with an appropriate card number prefix (SSC, SSR, etc.). They also have different insertion rates. This set's prefixes are also based on position and have different insertion rates, but yet they are lumped into one set instead of 5 seperate sets. I say that these sets being broken out individually. I don't mind doing the legwork, just want to ensure there is a concensus to actually do it. Thanks

This is one of those bizarre sets, kind of reminds me of the Epix set years ago that Dan just tackled in the last year or so, vrooomed may have some insight for you on this set as it may seem a bit of a catch 22.

Since the design of these sets are no different with the only exception being the card numbers, they should remain as a single set.

So you are saying the last 2 years of sets should be conbined instead of this one set being spilt up? Can do that also, just want to make sure we are doing proper and consistent.

There were no links to the other sets, so I didn't look at them. There was the link to the 17-18 set up above. I looked at that set, they all look the same and do not differentiate a Goalie card from a Center card in any way (except for card numbers, but 2 different players would have 2 different numbers anyway).
If you post links to the newer sets, I will look. Sorry, but I don't have the time or patience to go hunting. Please make it easy on others to help you investigate specific sets when mentioned. Thanks.

That's a tough call. They do have the different numbering, but they are also the same set. Upper Deck even refers to them as the same set on the pack odds, similar to how they break out the odds differently for rookies and veterans, even in the same checklist. I think it's really a case a a company other than Panini doing something stupid with the numbering.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. It is. The below is from Cardborad Connection (Series 1). I squinted my eyes enough for the 17/18 package odds (from the scan on this site) to see on the actual wrapper the odds are listed for each positon, not just lumped together as Shining Stars.
17/18 ...the foil-based Shining Stars includes Centers (1:16 packs), Left Wingers (1:24 packs), and the tough Goalies (1:48 packs)
18/19 ...Hobby offers Centers (1:64 packs), Goalies (1:192 packs) and Left Wingers (1:96 packs). Defencemen and Right Winger (1:48 packs)
19/20 Shooting Stars ...Centers - 1:64 packs...Right Wingers - 1:96 packs...Defencemen - 1:192 packs

The graphic design on each year varies. The 18-19s and 19-20s definitely have the positions clearly marked on the fronts in bold printing. The 17-18s all look like the same insert set, and if someone was to pick up some random card from that set, they would have trouble finding exactly which set they should look in to find their card. The 18-19s and 19-20s on the other hand, are pretty evident.
I honestly think the way we have them listed here is fine the way it is.
