2002 Topps Baseball Forum

I know some early 2000's Topps cards stuck together bad. I have a factory set of 2001 Topps that I understand will always stay in the box. A few years back I bought a complete set of 2002 Topps and they came in very nice sheets and binder. It is the only full set i have in a binder. I'm considering pulling them out and reusing the sheets for my team sets. Any advice on this set? I'll leave in the sheets if they will stick together in a box.

Well, I just bought an '01 factory set and opened it. I believe that the cards were meant to be seen and appreciated, not sit permanently closed up. Much to my dismay, almost all the cards were stuck together; the entire set was a brick. Tried a few tricks to get some loose, but the ones that came off were tore up; total loss. As been mentioned, this was common for Topps factory sets in the late '90s, early 00's. I'd been lucky to this point as the runs from 87-02 had been fine except '94 and '01.

With that said, if you pull the '02 set from the sheets I'd store them in a box, but don't pack them too tight. That is how the factory sets run into the sticking together issue. As long as they are packed more lossely and climate controlled they should be fine.  

The 2003's tend to stick together, so I assume the 2002's would have the same problem.  As stated, if you put them in a box, don't pack them too tightly and make sure they are someplace dry. 

You can always put the cards in penny-sleeves before boxing them up.
