2003 Topps 205 Baseball Forum

Similar to other buyback sets, should there be an insert set here for repurchased original T205 cards?  For these cards, they are framed with a unique 2003 Topps 205 border, so it differentiates the card from the original.  I pulled one back in the day and have it listed in my collection as the original card.

What product were they released in?

So these originals could be popped out of the 2003 Topps 205 frame and there's no differentiating markings?

I suppose that is the case, but one would have to destroy the frame to get to the card.  It is not a frame that is meant to be removed or "popped" off.  No differentiating markings beyond the frame though.  If you ebay "2003 topps 205 buybacks", you'll find 3 examples of these.

I'd like to see what others have to say about this. In the past, when a card has no differentiations, they are not listed in the newer release.

It's definitely a gray area.  However, if I were trading these cards with someone, I would want to know which version I would be trading for.  My opinion is that they should be listed separately but I understand there is precedence.  Thought it was worth a discussion!

The Topps 205 brand was only available in 2003. I would treat these as a buyback within the 2003 set. Just like we treat other buybacks.

But they inserted (allegedly) 1 of every card previously made (base sets) in the 1991 Topps product. They didn't mark them differently, and they are not listed.

But these cards are distinct in that they are framed. If I see one of these in the wild, I know it's from 2003 Topps 205. Not the same for the 1991 Topps buybacks. I'd argue that the frame is differentiation in and of itself.
