The 2018 Fleer Ultra X-Men set is ridiculous.
This set has 150 cards in the base set and three parallels before you even get to the other chase cards. I know that is pretty much the norm these days but it really makes me not want to collect the set.
How does everyone feel about these large sets with multiple parallels? I would rather have more chase cards with different images than have to collect the same 150 cards 4 times.

I agree with you, but I say just collect what you want to collect. There is no need to collect all the parallels if they don't interest you. I like the Marvel Metal silver parallels becuase they actually look different from the base set, but the Marvel Now parallel set was so similar you had to squint to see much of a difference, so I didn't bother with that one.

@shadowmangmr, I hear ya. I think I would be more on board with the parallels if the entire set, including the base cards, didn’t feel like an obvious money grab by the publisher.
I actually bought a box of the Marvel Now because it was really discounted at the time, but compared to these cards that box was pretty respectable. There were 168 cards in the box and the base set was only 100 cards. So I was able to complete the base set with only one box. The 2018 Fleer Ultra X-men cards only have 72 cards in a box with a base set of 150 cards, which means you gotta buy two boxes just to barely have a shot at completing just the base set.
Im a completionist so starting a set and not getting every card including parallels will drive me crazy. That’s when I start thinking maybe I’ll just skip the set entirely.

I really hate buying a box and only getting half of the set. Then even when you do buy a second box, you end up with a lot of doubles

@ketchupman36, Exactly! It’s pretty weak when you shell out $300 for two boxes of cards and you can’t even complete the base set. Blatant money grab.

Sounds like the trading card equivalent of variant covers on comic books. It sounds cool in the beginning but gets old, expensive, and impossible REAL fast, especially for completionists.

If you think that's bad, I bought an entire CASE of cards from Panini, and didn't get 5 of the 150 card base set...yet I did get more than 200 duplicates.
I personally love parallels. I will try to get as many as I can...especially if they are serially numbered. But, I only worry about trying to complete the base set as a general rule, and then view that whatever parallels or inserts I get is just a bonus. I would rather have a parallel than an insert. I know I'm one of very few people who feel that way.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. @sizzzler, Yes, it is a lot like the comic book variant covers. I stopped trying to collect variant covers when Marvel started putting out variant covers for all 50 states. They've done it a few times now and $4-5 per book you can go broke very quickly. I guess an argument can be made that at least you are getting different art on the cover, but there is still 20 pages of duplicate content per book. That's a lot to ask of people and is basically just preying on the addiction of collectors.

@billykingsley, 😦 I really hope you're exaggerating a bit because that is insane! Something like that would be enough for me to set the entire case on fire and post the video to all of Panini's social media accounts. 🔥🔥🔥
