Hi all,
I just cracked open a hobby box of the Series 2 (I got a Vlad Jr in the first pack I opened, so yay!) and was a little puzzled to get another Zack Greinke card. He has two cards in this set, #222 and #661, and as far as I can tell the cards are both normal in every way, which makes me wonder why he was feeatured twice. Any ideas?
Dave

Happens with somebody most years. I know it was Matt Adams a few years back.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I checked Matt Adams's Topps cards and didn't see an example where he had two base cards in the same year.
I am pretty sure I never ran across anything like this during my first heyday of collecting, 1977-1981, but maybe this is something that has become more common with Topps sets now being split into Series 1 and Series 2.
Are there any other verified examples of this happening? Or an explanation (other than simple human error) as to why it happens?

Shohei Ohtani has 2 base cards in the set (One in each series).
Edited: One as a pitcher and one as a hitter. Silly me.

Check out 2019 Panini Prizm. Justin Verlander has two cards. One as an Astro, and the other, #244 as a Tiger. Guess they just wanted to rub some salt in Tigers' fans wounds.

Somehow I missed the Ohtani pair this year, but given his unique situation it makes a bit of sense.
The 2019 Panini Prizm Verlander case also maks a bit of sense give the trade. I freely admit I am more interested in cases where Topps has done this, as I consider them more to be the standard bearer for baseball cards.
I did find another set of examples where Topps did this. In their 2011 set, for each member of the ASR team they issued two cards, one with the ASR cup and one without.
Greinke's pair still seems to be pretty unique to me as it is two base cards with nothing to distinguish them. Same team, same stats, same basic card -- just a different picture.
Do folks here think it was just an oversight on Topps' part?

It may not have been Matt Adams, but there was somebody in the 2018 set that had a card issued in Series 1, and another in Series 2. No trade, no ASR, just a common player (if I remember right) who ended up with two cards. I think it's just an oversight. And a silly one at that.

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Not having seen the Verlander Tigers card I'm speaking with a shaky opinion, but it doesn't make sense given the trade since that was at the 2017 trading deadline. If it's some sort of tribute, then I would understand it.
