Hey Football folks,
This parallel set (http://www.tradingcarddb.com/Subsets.cfm/sid/35944?PageIndex=1) is missing some first names on cards with multiple players. I didn't look at the other sets but I don't know enough about football to do it myself. (I found this because I was fixing up the glossary entry - there was one card with "SN 78" and I fixed it so that they all were "SN78".) Please fix as you can. Thanks.

grrrrrrrr....I've seen and worked on many of those sets in football and hockey. Another example of lazy members cutting and pasting from another site and not taking the time to make corrections. I sometimes wish members who upload these incomplete checklists have their permissions revoked.
Thanks for the opportunity to rant. In the meantime, I'll look it over and fill in the players I know.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I knew there were some Football guys out there. Thanks for cleaning these up - I've been working on the Baseball glossary mostly, so I sometimes come across this and since I know baseball, I fix them. I've been trying to clean up the space between SN & xxx and so now I'm finding other sports (and even some non-sports). As I find these for the ones I don't know, I'll do the same.
Thanks to all who help!

That is quite annoying! I fix them when I come upon them. Another thing I find annoying, I've been noticing more and more card images that are being submitted that are clearly pictures taken off the internet and not actual scans (most evident are the ones that have the companies watermarks on them). I point them out to the admins when I see them, but as with the people who submit sets with just last names, I think people who submit images taken off the net instead of actual scans should not be allowed to submit further images as well.

I came across a bunch of uncropped scans of tobacco-sized inserts recently, that were scanned a few years ago. I clicked the user's name and looked at his recent scans. They were all fine, even on minis, which makes me think Admin probably did intervene at the time. I cropped the ones I saw with the site crop tool. So Admin probably is watching for this kind of stuff, but a lot of the late 90s checklists without first names were probably added a long time ago, when there was probably a lot of urgency to get a LOT of checklists on here in a short time, enabling the site to grow and become everything it is today. It seems to be a lot more prevalent in sets that were issued before this site existed. Maybe the standards weren't as stringent back then because there was so much work to do, and fewer people doing it.
-------------------------------
I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I only add DOBs and profile info as I dont have the intelligence to link stuff. I'd rather leave something along rather than screw it up as I am always going back and trying to correct my crappy scans, done before I learned about the cropping feature.

@switz..yes agreed, i don't think it was a standard issue.. creating a foundation for anything is just the start- through some really good users on here a lot of great suggestions were impletmented and we in all just raising the bar making it better-- its just the back filling of everything and ensuring everything is done right along the way. the newer CL that are coming out have tons of inserts but the sites listing them are doing a better job, i think,
@NJ-- np on linking them,, once you make sure the name and/or team is correct, at the bottom of the card scan section just click on the Edit Links or if your in the Check Names / Check Teams sections, click on the Links- the site program does the rest. if something isn't correct or matching whats in the site it will show up in Red.

I only joined (as a member) the site a little over 3 years ago. Obviously it was around long before that. (Yep, a little research shows that the first card scan was uploaded near Thanksgiving 2007 - a little more than 8 years ago.) There was probably quite a push to get the checklists up - and there probably was no QC being done. Which, for the time, was great. The site needed t oget on its feet and get rolling. The more checklists available, the better. The site creator(s) probably realized this, and knew that either the site would grow, and get its devoted followers (us), and get them cleaned up, or it would get no support and fold. Thankfully, it looks like it's flourishing. And I think we have enough core members who are almost "Admin-like" in their diligence to clean things up that it will continue to improve, daily.
As far as mistakes, we all make them. Nothing is irreversible. Just if you do goof up, please contact Admin or let someone else with the knowledge and permission to clean it up (if you cannot clean it up yourself).
Thanks again to the football guys for helping out. Admin has put in a lot of features to help us help the site ("Things To Do" page!). As long as the checklists being added now can be perfect, we'll be in good shape for cleaning up past mistakes.
