I'd like to share a collecting story.
Finding this site a couple of months ago has re-energized my interest in collecting. I'm a set collector and was looking for a new set to collect. I decided to pursue the 1965 Topps Baseball set because it is one of my favorite designs ever.
When I first registered on this site I had 7 1965 cards, so I definitely have a lot of work fun ahead of me.
I decided I'd try to complete some of the subsets first. Primarily through eBay, I purchased all the World Series cards and all 7 checklists. I've moved on to the League Leader cards and the Team Cards. Plus, I've made some purchases of small lots of 10 to 30 cards.
I'm having a blast. I really enjoy bidding and trying to get bargains on eBay. It reminds me of all the garage sales and flea markets I used to go to looking for singles to complete some of my sets.
Buying small lots reminds me of buying packs of cards when I was a kid. I remember that feeling of sifting through cards in the 4 or 5 packs I'd buy with my weekly allowance. I was so familiar with all of my cards I could tell on sight if a card was a double or one that I needed. I loved the excitement of looking through those cards in a freshly-opened pack. Bidding on lots is similar, but not nearly as exciting. I hope the lots that are offered don't have many cards that I already own, making it worth my while to make a bid. New lots are constantly being put on the site and scanning through the offers is kind of like scanning through the cards in the packs I used to open.
I was born in 1968, so I'm not familar with most of the players from the 1965 set, outside of the superstars. I decided to buy David Halberstam's "October 1964". As I read the book I plan on matching the players he references with the cards of have, or look up the cards on this site.
It's going to be a great ride.
