Couple of points:
- When thoughtful constructive criticism regarding a process that has some flaws is followed up with something that could be a viable solution, that is not a bash-fest, or any other B****-fest. It's simply trying to find a better way. That's pretty much the model this site has been following since the day it started, improvements all the time.
- Yes, the top point-earning members have done a lot for the site. A few crooked scans, or swiped from the net isn't the worst thing in the world. However, since technology has improved over time, scanning should improve as well. If you look at certain members more recent contributions, you can see whether they have improved with the technology. Unfortunately, one that I investigated has not. (Already had dialog with Admin about that one, no more needs to be done or said about that.) I know I have noticed my scans have improved a ton since when I started. And if I see any scans I did that are really bad, I will replace them.
- How bad is bad? I know we have done our fair share (and some more than others) of complaining, but how "bad" are some of these images we're complaining about? Slightly crooked? A little bit of a black line on a couple edges? Washed out? In many (maybe most) of these cases, if it wasn't for those that were posted here, they wouldn't be here at all. And as long as the cards are mostly straight, those edges can be cropped (as cnangle mentioned). Let's not lose sight of the intent of the website - is it to have pristine scans in high-def of every card or sample imges of the cards to assist in identifying what you have to track it in a database?
- No one followed up my post from the bottom of page 1 that suggested a method for getting better scans on the site in a more automated (no Admin intervention) process. I'm sure there are ways to improve that. I would like to present something to Admin to see if it's feasible and something worth implementing.
- This should easily be the last thread about specific bad scans. Generally, they are not productive, and just make certain members get upset with other certain members. Which is a shame, because I am in dialogue with members on both sides, and they are all very, VERY nice people who are very important to the hobby and this site. I will continue to reintroduce the "Welcome New Members" thread every so often. In there, we can remind members about good scanning practices.
- Enjoy the hobby, enjoy this site.
