OK. I agree with him being an Astro. The difference is that the front of the cards says 'ASTROS'. If it said 'BLUE JAYS', the rules here would still call it an Astro. That's different than what I am used to.

The Ashby is an Asto. Sorry but many posts were added as I was typing mine, and then my points seemed to be redundant as the others popped in as I was typing mine. Non OPC examples. Fleer products of the 90s and 00s have quite a few of guys just in the last year's uniform listed as new team without any "Now With" message. Being a Tigers collector Juan Gonzalez has many cards where he is pictured as a Ranger, but the team is listed as a Tiger...
At least thes have logos on the front. Like Dan's Phillies card check these out
Upper Deck even did the "Traded To" thing a few times
I acquired these Kapler Cards in trades, but I actually put them right back up for trade as they are Ranger's cards.

So how would you categorize that Ashby card?

I'm from Canada and never once thought to put the "Now With" Cards anywhere but what the team name is. To me, the database, and pretty much every other card catalouge/database I have seen, is that the card referenced is and Angels card.
The idea of a tag is a good one, but to "reteam" every OPC traded card to this would screw up everybody else's team collections.

I will do that. Interesting Jason that is how you approach it. I have collected Blue Jays (1977-1993) since I was a kid and am now trying to compile a grand list of all Blue Jays cards. This site is beyond incredible but there are a few quirks that I find odd, like the 'now with Angels' not even having a Blue Jays tag when the front of the card says 'Blue Jays'. I grew up with OPC, and never even thought about putting a 'now with Angels' in the Angels team set, so to speak. Vive la difference!! Hopefully Admin will look and see that since it's done both ways, and easy to accommodate, thye will make it better for ALL collectors. Cheers.

You've got a diamond, You've got 9 men, You've got a hat, and a bat, and that's not all. You got the bleachers, got 'em from spring 'til fall. You got a dog, and a drink, and an umpire's call. What do you want? Let's play ball. OK!! [OK!!] Blue Jays!! [Blue Jays!!] Let's! Play! Ball!

As I said your idea of a "tag" is a good one, logistically it would be up to ADMIN if they are in as to how to do it. There already is a tag called "Wrong Uniform" but that wouldn't save your cards as "Blue Jays" to your collection. I haven't explored this (as it doesn't fit my collecting needs at the moment) but you can create "multiple collections" in your profile. Maybe making one called "Now with" for cards you want to add as Jays, but aren't by TCDB guidelines, and add them in there?

The most notable example I can think of this is 1993 Donruss baseball, with the expansion draft happening between Series 1 and 2 release dates, so LOTS of cards are NOW WITH. I personally go by uniform for collecting Cardinals, because in my mind, it's the photo, and not the words, that makes it a baseball card. Which inevitably makes it wrong, because my brain doesn't work like a typical collector. So I got a few Cardinals cards that show up as Marlins and Rockies on the site. Doesn't really bother me.
For the record, I'm pretty sure Topps team checklists, on backs of manager cards or whatever, go by the small print and not the photo. I've thought that was weird since the first time I noticed on 1985 cards.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Well, the 1986 OPC Bobby Cox which says Blue Jays on the front with a printed 'Now with Braves Front Office' has the Blue Jays Checklist on the back, not the Braves. I don't know about TOPPS Checklists, becuase I thought this was only an OPC phenomenon.

Topps goes by the fine print. In 1985 Dave Lopes is pictured in his A's uniform with 'Now with Cubs' on the front. He is listed on the team checklist for the Cubs.

The only thing I'll say here is that I hate getting a "Cardinals" card only to find that the player is in some other team's uniform.

This is just speaking for my personal collection (and website), but if they just put a "now with/traded to" tag on the card, I (generally) put it in the team that is photographed. If they took the time to change the team colors (if applicable to the design) or put the new team logo on the card, I put it into the new team's file. The one place where I don't hold true to that is expansion teams. 1988-89 Fleer is a perfect example. They have the original team colors, but a Drafted By tag over the old team's name, and the photos are of course with the old team. I put those with the new expansion teams in my photo files. With that said, I may have done the exact opposite on occasion. You try moving around more than 100,000 images and be consistent over a period of months, LOL!
Oh, and, only the card front matters to me. If there's a line of the text on the back saying they were traded or whatever, so what. It's not making that card part of a different team.
-------------------------------
VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. I went the route of least thinking for my team collecting - if it says traded to the Jays, I collected them and if they are in a Jays uniform - doesn't matter if they were traded elsewhere, I collect them too. The more the merrier!
