That's great and all, but is there any way possible to iscern a Feller "factory" AU card from an in-person AU card?

That's one of the questions I kinda pointed at? Is is legit or a facsimile? I couldn't find the straight answer so asking the crew here. First, either way it should be listed right? Second, those that mention the auto don't specific if it's a legit, in-person AU or a factory stamp.

Point I'm trying to make is that there is no way to tell if it's a "factory autograph" versus any other "after-market autograph". We d not ist any other "after-market" alteratiosn, and without any embossing, stamping, or SN, it's simply the same as any other "after=market' auto, and would not be listable.

Point taken, not arguing that point. Don't think it's an aftermarket alteration as it looks like it's a manufacturer's factory set. Was wondering if anyone here knew whether it was a legit AU or just a facsimile one. I had the card in hand and it's hard to tell. Feels like it could be a real AU and there's an indent on there like someone was writing on it, but it's not as easy as that. In fact, it's only #35 in the set; there is no non-AU #35 in the box. From the pack or from other factory set types there is just a plain #35. So it almost feels like a VAR, but I am fr from the expert n Conlon and I am certainly in agreement with what you are saying.

And there is this from the same site that talks about the VARs from this year. Legit and in silver
http://conloncards.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_28.html
Autographed Cards
Between 1991 and 1994, 20,000 autographed cards were randomly inserted into factory sets. These cards included seven players; Johnny Mize, Bob Feller, Bobby Doerr, Enos Slaughter, Johnny VanderMeer, Hal Newhouser and Marty Marion (approximately 3,000 of each player).
Signatures were done in silver ink on the B&W cards. The silver, however, has turned mostly "white" over the following years.
NOTE: Any cards with autographs NOT in silver or white ink ARE NOT the original factory released autographed cards.
A few complete factory sets with these bonus card are still unopened. These unopened factory sets would be the best way to own an autographed card to insure their validity.

I'll ask it differently:
If someone asked Bob Gibson to sign one of these cards using a silver pen back in 1996 (or thereabouts)and he did, how can we tell the difference between that card and one of these cards coming out of the factory set?

Yes, you may not be able to. But why would that preclude the listing of a card that was known to be signed by a player and released by the manufacturer in their packaging. Yes, they could have done a better job of identifying the card as something special (wording on the card like they do today. Consider this, how rare were AU's in products back then. Look a the Upper Deck AUs in the Baseball Heroes series during this timeframe. The AUs were also on cards that were not marked as anything different; only different is the adding of the SN (xxxx of xxxx) to the card. What is to prevent someone from taking on of those header cards, having it signed by the player today and then adding in the SN on their own. Willing to bet it's happened. Yet those cards are listed as they were produced by an authorized manufacturer and released in an authorized format.
I'm pretty understanding on why things are/aren't listed on here especially thanks to lessons learned during those IRs (yes, you Dan and thank you for the teaching) I've submiited. And yes, I owe some research on one that is still open. When I've gotten an explaination I've run with it. The original question was whether the AUs in the Conlon series were legit. They do seem to be legit so why aren't they listed here. The fact that someone can perform a fraudulent activity shouldn't dissuade the listing of a card(s). Heck, the article provided basically states that unless you pulled it from the factory set yourself you can be sketical of it's origin. And yes, I busted mine out of the box so only I'll ever know it's legit I guess.
