My favorite card imagesby Billy Kingsley - 1 card (Last updated on Dec 13, 2012) |
An ongoing documentary of my favorite images as chosen for use on trading cards.
1. 1991 Topps Desert Storm #112 A-7 Avenger
The Topps Desert Storm set had a lot of great images in it...but this one has to be my favorite. How many other card images actually show the curvature of the Earth? I can think of a grand total of none! I also like how, instead of a simple photo of the aircraft itself, they (Topps) got a shot of it flying over an aircraft carrier. |

Unfortunately, THEY GOT IT WRONG!! I worked on those planes and was there! It's actually an A-7 Corsair II! I had that set, along with Pro Set's DS set, and loved checking out the pictures. Topps, as I recall, had several errors/variations too! I had the complete ultimate set with just about every, if not ALL, error/variation, and pack wrappers, all neatly cataloged and stored in pages and binders! If I remember, when we moved, and had to make room for the kids, well...my cards kind of went "away"! I miss that set! Hmmm...now that my kids are grown up and gone, I can try and put that set back together (assuming you can find any still!!

Hi Ray, I just spotted your comment now! Wow, that's not good! I am just starting to learn aircraft so I didn't catch the error- eventually at some point I'll type up the variant checklist and submit it to the board. The cards are some of the most common around- you can pick up the entire box of each series for about $5. I did...I only got about 3 packs worth when it was new.
