My Greatest Pack Pulls

by Billy Kingsley - 11 cards (Last updated on Nov 29, 2017)

2. 2004-05 Topps Total - Press Plates Black Front #68 Richard Jefferson

This was the first time I had ever seen a printing plate card. When I pulled it, I didn't even know what it was at first. I had read that they were doing them but I had never seen one...yet. The Nets are traditionally my favorite team so that was a pleasent bonus. Oddly enough, I opened the box in New Jersey! The very first time I opened cards in the state, and this is what I get. I was there for an unrelated hobby show, and purchased a box at home to bring with me.

3. 2003 Press Pass - Signings #NNO Dale Earnhardt Jr.

This was a single pack pull...from a retail pack! I began collecting NASCAR cards in 1993, but I didn't really do much with them- I suspect it's because I had another hobby that was my primary collection for NASCAR, possibly also because the NBA cards are just simply better quality.

Then, in 2003, I was at the Target in Kingston, NY. I usually always go to the card section at Target...actually, that's usually the only reason I go to Target, but this remains my best pull to date.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is tied as my all time favorite driver, with Ernie Irvan, and is my favorite active driver, so getting this was a big thrill! After pulling this one, I decided it was time I give the NASCAR cards the attention they deserved, and I have, ever since.

4. 2004-05 Topps Luxury Box - Luxury Box #146 Willis Reed

Another single pack 1 of 1 pull! This was one of my favorite sets for the season, so even after I did a box I still got some more packs, and this was in one of them! This is the most recent 1/1 added to my NBA collection, in 2005. (I was not collecting NBA from 2006-11)

Topps could have been a little more creative with the parallel's set name, though. Naming it after the name of the set...that must have been such hard work for them to come up with! (LOL)

5. 2004-05 Fleer Throwbacks - Hardwood Classics Jerseys Autographs 1 #HCA-DW Dorell Wright

By the time this set came out, I was almost done with my first go-around at collecting NBA basketball cards. I collected from 1996-2006 regularly, and from around 2000-early 2006 I usually did one or more boxes of each set. this was, I think, third from the last box I did. Within the last 5 to be sure. (and that still holds true, for now, even though I am collecting again I have not yet done any boxes, though I will in 2013 as I celebrate 25 years of collecting trading cards)

I actually don't feel that this is a very good card design...there's nothing really that sets it apart from other similar inserts in the same set, other than the serial number. I was never a fan of the inserted signature panel, either, especially when portions of the signature are cut off by the framing. That detracts. the two swatches of jersey...apparently from the same jersey...seems kind of odd as well. To me it would have been much more interesting to have one large jersey piece with some extra non-patch material to go along with the patch material, but that's just me.

Still, it seems trivial to be complaining about it. Afterall, it IS a 1 of 1 parallel! :)

6. 2006 Press Pass Legends - Press Plates Cyan #35 Jeff Gordon

Merry Christmas to me! The only NASCAR 1/1 I've ever pulled, I got the box of 2006 Legends for Christmas of '06. I have three other 1/1s from the sport, but I bought all of them.

7. 2015-16 Donruss - Press Proof Black #112 Mirza Teletovic

Pulled November 16...my first 1/1 pull since Christmas 2006!

8. 2002-03 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection - Buybacks #55 Kenyon Martin

Kenyon is in my top 5 all time favorite players, so pulling this was quite a thrill! It's also the only card I've seen come out of a pack in a penny sleeve. (it shares it with a certificate of authenticity)

9. 2000-01 Upper Deck - UD Game Jerseys (Series One) #KB-H Kobe Bryant

This was the second jersey card I ever pulled from a pack, the first having come earlier that day (Christmas 2000). This was the first auto-jersey in my collection. Later in the same box I got a Michael Jordan suit relic!

10. 2015-16 Upper Deck Portfolio - Profiles Materials Quad Premium Series Gold #PM4-WG Wayne Gretzky

SN 1 of 2...pulled from a pack on 11/29/2017! This may be my best pull ever, and it's certainly the best hockey card I've ever pulled! Just a year into my collecting the sport!

11. 1999-00 Topps Gold Label - Class 2 One to One #88 Baron Davis

My first 1 of 1! I pulled this from a single pack purchased at Diamond Jack's in Fishkill, NY, in 1999. When I turned it over and saw 1/1 on the back...I couldn't believe it! It didn't seem possible that I had pulled something so awesome! It took a while before it really sunk in. This always has been one of my favorite cards since that day,

Cool stuff. I also love the USS Constitution card. I will explore this set and see what other artifacts they used. Thanks for making me aware of this. Billy, you should look into some of the inserts in recent years of Topps Allen & Ginter baseball. Some unusual cards of historical figures there.

Great list. Love the USS Constitution card as well. Had I pulled that card, it would easily be my favorite card in my collection. This is a great idea for a list. I don't buy whole boxes and so I rarely pull anything spectacular and have never pulled a 1/1 card, but can't wait until I do.
