Phillies Manager when they won the world series. I always loved his managing style. |

Father of John Mayberry Jr., former Phillie, and Sr. was a great player in his own right. |

Nice list. I navigated through your entire list, and found some players that I had forgot about, along with some players that I've never heard of. There are definitely a few of these cards that I will have to add to one of my lists. Regarding the Edgar Martinez, Topps has unfortunately done this with many players. Paul O'Neill is one of my favorite players of all time, yet there was never a true rookie card for him either from Topps. Good work, I look forward in revisiting your list after you add some more rookie cards.
Fantastic list | ||
Wow, you are right about Paul O'Neill. I will add his '86 Donruss to my wantlist and to this list. Topps really lagged on O'Neill -- no base card until '88! And thanks for the compliments! This was a list I sat down and put together when I started collecting rookie cards. I have always been a Topps guy, so I decided to stick with them. I choose this era because it is relatively affordable (unlike much of the 50s/60s) while also fairly simple to tell what a rookie card is (unlike the mid 90s - mid 2000s). I think I'm going to slightly change the parameters to say Topps/Bowman only unless there is no Topps/Bowman rookie like in the case of O'Neill and Martinez. If there are any more players that Topps snubbed, please let me know and I'll try to find a "true" rookie to add to this list (unless there is a "rookie" of similar value from Topps -- like in the case of Pedro Martinez ("True" RC was 91 UD final edition, but 92 Bowman I consider a RC of similar value.))
A-Rod has been added too.
The 92 Bowman J.C. Penney Catalog looking shots are my favorites. Cards like that always make me laugh, in a "so bad they're good" kind of way. |
