My Vintage Cardsby hyperdex - 43 cards (Last updated on Jul 30, 2017) |
1. 1909-11 American Tobacco Company T206 White Border #NNO Matty McIntyre
Found in a card shop in NYC. My new oldest card! |
2. 1941 Play Ball #3 Bucky Walters
The 1940 Reds won the World Series, and these four card commemorate that. Walters is underappreciated. He's probably better than some Hall of Famers, with a pitching triple crown and MVP in 1939. |
4. 1941 Play Ball #5 Frank McCormick
1940 MVP and eight time All Star. He's not a Hall of Famer, but it's a little hard to figure out why he never went over 4% in HoF voting. |
5. 1941 Play Ball #56 Vandy Vander Meer
No hitters in consecutive starts cemented his place in immortality. He didn't play a huge role in the Reds' World Series season, but he was my first card from this set. |

The Dallas Texans card reminded me of why my dad, a Dallas native rooted for the Cowboys and the Chiefs. You probably know that the Texans moved from Dallas to Kansas City and became the Chiefs.
Thanks for the comment! I did know that. One thing I found very interesting is that the AFL team names included here, the Texans and the Titans, were later recycled by the NFL. I also think it's interesting that the two old NBA team names included here, the Packers and Nationals, are current big 4 sports team names. What goes around, comes around.
Nice collection! Love the backdrop on the Jim Brown card showing the Cadillac and Thunderbird.
Nice collection. I need a card from the 40s. Might go for a 1941 Play Ball, now that I've looked at this list. v3 |
