Favorite Cards for my Favorites List

by Gunny - 55 cards (Last updated on May. 23, 2019)

1. 1990-91 Pro Set English League #2 Tony Adams

Long time Arsenal Captain Tony Adams was one of my favorite defenders. This card makes me think he is in deep contemplation getting ready for a set piece from the opposition. This card I got from a box of Pro Set English League that my buddy at the LCS was able to procure.

2. 1974 Topps #70 Dick Allen

Dick Allen from Wampum, PA! Always one of my childhood heroes, I like this card because 1974 Topps is nice clean design and this shot of Dick makes me think he is just sitting on the bench just hangin' out. This card deffo came from a pack purchased in 1974.

3. 1990 Score #592 Moises Alou

I thought for sure that Moises would be a mainstay in the Pirates outfield for years on end. But in 1990 they traded him to the Expos, I was not happy. This by far is my favorite Alou card as it shows him in a Pirates uniform and lets me imagine what could've been. Deffo got this card from a pack. Those 1990 Score cards were in almost every retail store that year.

4. 2009 Upper Deck MLS - Golden Boot #GB-17 Guillermo Barros Schelotto

The greatest DP signed by the Crew. This card shows him in one of my favorite kits the club wore. This card came from a pack from the LCS.

5. 2008-09 O-Pee-Chee - 1979-80 Retro #580 Jean Beliveau

Great shot of Jean Beliveau and the retro design on this card I really like. Got this card in a pack from the LCS.

6. 2005-06 Magic Box Int. Shoot Out #NNO Dennis Bergkamp

I like this card because it features Dennis Bergkamp in my all time favorite Arsenal kit. This redcurrant kit was made to celebrate the team's last season at Highbury. This card came in a box which was an ebay purchase.

7. 1970-71 O-Pee-Chee #200 Les Binkley

I like how this card has the Binkster posed, ready to face the shooter and make the save. Purchased this card at one of my LCSs, one which sadly went out of business.

8. 1975-76 Topps #156 Stan Bowles

Stan Bowles is another legend from my favorite era in football. He replaced another feller on this list at QPR, Rodney Marsh. Another player I read more about than actually saw play. This card came from a lot of 75-76 cards obtained through ebay from the UK. One of my favorite sets.

9. 1999 Futera Arsenal Fans' Selection #60 Liam Brady

Chippy Brady, the best left footed player I ever saw play. Although most of the time I saw him play was through videos of old Arsenal matches. Growing up he was another player that I read more about before I got to see him play. This card came from a Futera lot purchased from ebay which also featured a bunch of Celtic FC Futera cards.

10. 1971-72 Topps #180 John Brisker

Was there a tougher man in basketball? I think not. I got this card in a pack purchased at a corner store when I was growing up way back in 1971.

Nice list.  It's cool to see some of your favorite cards with a little background story, great variety too.  In collecting cards, nothing beats pulling that special card out of a pack.

Billy Kingsley

Some really cool stuff here! I don't recall seeing the Penguins anniversary set before, but regional promos are always fun when you have them, and terrible when you don't, LOL! I had no idea Jim Clark was in the Sport Kings set...I'll have to grab one off COMC for myself!

I agree with you on that Dennis Bergkamp card. Those uniforms are awesome!

Totally agree with you on Randy Johnson. No one struck fear into batters hearts like him. Iron Maiden...The best! I have seen them many times and love their music.
