31. 1969 Topps #372 Adolfo Phillips

Adolfo Phillips

(27 yr. old Center Fielder) 28 games

Adolfo, "the Panamanian Flash" played for 4 teams over his 8 year career. He was part of the trade with the Phillies that brought Fergie Jenkins to the Cubs. As a kid I saw the Cubs beat the Dodgers 20-3 in 1967 where Adolfo had 6 RBI. That June he had a 3 homer, 7 RBI game. He was sent to the Expos in 1969 for Paul Popovich. I have one of Adolfo's game used bats in my collection. A very tough man to track down, I've never met Adolfo. My autographs are from private signings with Adolfo.

I have 6 of 6 Topps cards autographed. (14 total signed cards)

Version C - Logo "C" showing through

Paul's 1969 card can be found in three different versions. I have multiple examples of all 3 versions signed by him. This version, with part of the logo showing through the airbrush, is the toughest version to find and most expensive of the trio.

Thanks Billy. I think you'd enjoy all the details I've catalogued involving my autograph collections. Each autographed item includes the date of acquisition, the source and the cost. I too wrote everything down by hand on paper. It all needs to be transferred to an Excel (or Access) doc so I can have better access to the info. I wish I'd kept better records with regards to the costs involved in acquiring the item prior to it being signed. For example, my 1962 Topps signed Jim Hickman only details the cost of acquiring the autograph, but the card itself was probably $40 before it was signed because it's the last card in the set.
