Heisman Letdowns, Failures, No-Shows

by C2Cigars - 37 cards (Last updated on May 1, 2018)

31. 2012 Upper Deck #26 Jason White

2003 Winner

Signed as an undrafted free agent, then quit football.

32. 2006 Score #331 Matt Leinart

2004 Winner

Primarily a back-up, seeing very little playing time.

33. 2007 Score #367 Troy Smith

2006 Winner

Drafted 174th overall; no success as backup in 4 NFL seasons.

34. 2010 Topps #440 Tim Tebow

2007 Winner

IMO, I thought he was a good player, but he was never given a chance. Only used as back-up and for "wild horse" and "wildcat" formations.

35. 2013 Topps - 1959 Minis #96 Robert Griffin III

2011 Winner

Capped off his first season with 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year. But subsequent seasons lackluster and injury plagued.

36. 2014 Topps Prime #144 Johnny Manziel

2012 Winner

His immaturity derailed his career before it even started.

37. 2017 Sports Illustrated for Kids #632 Baker Mayfield

2017 Winner

I feel sorry for this kid. He received the Kiss of Death by being drafted by the Cleveland "Career Killer" Browns.
Might as well as write him off now since he's heading to the Quarterback Graveyard known as Cleveland.

(tongue-in-cheek? maybe...maybe not)

Manziel has talent, but he needs to more logical in his decisions outside of football to truly get a chance to even display his true ability.

In Bellino's defense, you should note that after graduating from the Naval Academy, he had to serve 5 years in the Navy before going into the pros.

Would Herschel Walker count for this list? While I thought he was okay, I think he never lived up to his full potential.

Really cool list. The only disagreement I have is Vinny Testaverde. Sure he wasn't an elite talent but he was a very solid QB for 21 seasons and that is why he stuck around so long. If a team needed a veteran backup or a starter who could hold his own while they prep a young QB, Vinny was their man.
