My Top 10 Favorite George Brett 1986-1987 Cards (That I Own)

by midbellman - 10 cards (Last updated on Dec 25, 2014)

10. 1986 Donruss #53 George Brett

As I stated in an earlier top ten, I am not a huge fan of Donruss or Fleer. But this card makes me laugh, because I have a dialogue going in my head of what was being said during the photo shoot.
"Hey George, can you straighten your hat, sit up straight and smile...please...never mind, just take the picture."

9. 1986 O-Pee-Chee Tattoos #6 Ron Kittle / Pete Rose / Sammy Khalifa / Bruce Bochte / Cecil Cooper / Mookie Wilson / Scott McGregor / George Brett

As with my last top ten, I have mixed emotions on "Non-card" cards like this. It wasn't used for its original purpose to be a temporary tattoo, but if it was I couldn't have collected it. I think that is what makes it appealing though.

8. 1987 Donruss - Super Diamond Kings #15 George Brett

Wow, 2 Donruss cards in 1 top ten. How can you not like Super cards, whether they are Topps or Donruss. Also, since it is a caricature it also makes it appealing to me.

7. 1987 M&M's Star Lineup - Panels #13-14 Cal Ripken Jr. / George Brett

This is the most recent complete set that I have collected. Every year I try to focus on a different aspect of cards. 2014 I went after panels, and 2013 was variation cards. I would have to say that probably my favorite non-Royals baseball player is Cal Ripken, Jr. so it is cool that it has both of these 2 players on it.

6. 1986 Topps 3-D Baseball Stars #5 George Brett

This is an interesting concept for a card. They are a pain to store, because they don't lay flat. Even so I think the set is pretty cool.

5. 1987 Classic #47 George Brett

This is a Classic...literally.

4. 1987 Sportflics #5 George Brett

I have mentioned it on other top ten lists, but I really like Sportflics cards. I mentioned earlier that in 2013 I was going after variation cards. This is one that I am hunting for. Most of these cards have a copyright of 1986, but I am looking for one that has a copyright of 1987. If anyone has a spare and wants to send to me, I won't say no.

3. 1986 O-Pee-Chee Stickers #157 George Brett

This is the most recent Brett card that I collected. I had literally been waiting close to 2 years for a seller to put this card up for sale. It's now mine and I now have almost every OPC card made of Brett. Only one left to go.

2. 1986 O-Pee-Chee - Wax Box Bottom Panels Singles #C George Brett

This card makes me mad because of my one stupidity. I actually got this as a full panel of the 4 cards. This was before I was interested in collecting panels and sold the other cards. This card doesn't come up for sale very often and the full panel is even rarer. Oh well, I've learned my lesson.

1. 1986 National Photo Kansas City Royals #NNO George Brett

In 2012 I got into team sets and picked up several. You'll see my favorite sets on the next top ten, but this is my favorite from these years. Do you agree with my list? What are your favorite cards from this era? I would love to read comments from other collectors and respond.

Merry Christmas

Great collection. I love those Topps 3D with the adhesive backs. My brother and I had many of these stuck to our bedroom wall!

I can see the appeal for kids on these. My brother and I had many wall posters of our favorite atheletes growing up. I think SI put them out.
