My Top 10 Favorite George Brett 1988-1990 Cards (That I Own)

by midbellman - 10 cards (Last updated on Jan 2, 2015)

10. 1990 Topps - Wax Box Bottom Panels Singles #B George Brett

Why is this card on my list? If you read my first list you see that I had my small George Brett collection stolen from me. This was the only GB card I had left and is the only card that I have from my first collection. It is in terrible shape, but it holds a place of honor.

9. 1988 Grenada Baseball Stamps #NNO George Brett

Token "non-card" card Alert! Enough said! :-)

8. 1990 Little Big Leaguers #NNO George Brett

Nostalgia will get me every time. Little league, although I wasn't good, is still one of my best childhood memories.

7. 1989 Topps - Batting Leaders #5 George Brett

This card doesn't pop up very often on the open market, but I finally got one and know have a second one coming. I'm looking out for the 1990 version now.

5. 1990 Sports Illustrated for Kids #162 George Brett

This was my favorite magazine as a kid. My older brother got the real SI, but this was the highlight of my month when this arrived. I was always excited to see which cards I got.

4. 1988 Panini Stickers #99 Royals Uniform

Is this technically a GB card? I say it is. It has GB's number. Panini stickers are fun.

3. 1988 Kenner Starting Lineup Cards #3397114040 George Brett

I was always jealous of my older brother, because he got Starting Lineup action figures and I didn't. But know that I am adult and have the ability to collect these, I don't have a desire. I have mentioned in other lists about items that never got to be used as they were intended, like tattoo or rub downs; but I can't bring myself to buy an action figure(doll) that is still in the original packaging.

2. 1989 Topps/LJN Baseball Talk #52 George Brett

When I was in 5th grade I got the complete 1989 Topps set for Christmas. Really it's the only present that I can remember getting specifically for Christmas. I saw these talking sets in the store and wished I could have added them to my list.

1. 1988 Kansas City Royals Smokey #20 George Brett

This should be no surprise if you have seen my other top ten lists. Silly cartoon caricatures, what’s not to love? Do you agree with my list? What are your favorite cards from this era? I would love to read comments from other collectors and respond.

As a long time Royals fan, I've been enjoying looking through your top 10 sets. I love the 1988 Smokey Bear set. I'll have to start looking for one of my own to add to my Royals team set collection. Thanks for the card collection. Look forward to seeing more.

'89 was a huge year for me in my collection career. I still think the 1988 Fleer card is one of my all time favorite cards. Love the colors and this time period. Between good ol' #5 and BO and Saberhagen it was a great team with far too many great players to list. I'm a few years older than you but I definitely share your love of George. Good times!
