Many people forget that in 1969 the Pirates were the big boys of Pittsburgh sports. That started to change when the Steelers drafted Joe Greene. That same year the Steelers sent Mean Joe on a little bit of a tour. He appeared at the local Jamesway store in Somerset, Pa. My mother took me to meet him and he signed a cloth Steelers logo patch for me. Sadly the autograph has faded and the Jamesway store is long gone.

My father took our family to a bunch of Pirates baseball games in the early 1970s. During one of those games an usher came up to us and told us to wait in the concourse after the game as someone wanted to meet us. So after the game we went there and there was Danny Murtaugh still uniform like you see on the card. My sister had some leg surgery earlier in the year and still had a cast on her leg. He wanted meet her and cheer her up and thank us for coming to the game. He signed a pocket schedule for me which I still have.

Back in 1975 it was possible to actually grab a hold of the top of the glass near the blue line at the Civic Arena and try to get autographs. So there I was with my GOAL magazine program in hand clutching the top of the glass when Vic Hadfield came over and signed my magazine and thanked all the kids for coming to the game. The game was against the California Golden Seals. I thought the magazine was lost but a recent clean up effort by me and Mrs Gunny found the magazine tucked away in the bottom of a box!

As a teenager I had great aspirations of becoming the next big comic book artist. When I read in the newspaper that Jim Shooter was going to be at one of the first comic book conventions at the Monroeville Mall I just had to go and show off my work. He was very gracious and talked to me about practice, practice and more practice. I found some of them drawings a while back and thought, wow he really was patient and very kind because I had drawn complete crap.

First time was In 1983, Denis returned to the Penguins for a second stint. I had a friend who's father was a Press Photographer and he had given me some of them glossy press photos with the captions pasted underneath of Penguins games. So when Denis returned I found one of them featuring him and waited at the players entrance and he graciously signed it for me.

Second time was at the last big card show at Robert Morris University in 2017. I brought along this card which he signed.

The Penguins never received so much attention as when they drafted Mario Lemieux in 1984. So kind of like what the Steelers did with Mean Joe the Penguins sent Mario on a bit of tour. He ended up one evening at the Joseph Horne's Department Store at the Beaver Valley Mall. I got a scoresheet I kept signed. I thanked him French which made him chuckle a bit. Last year I got the signature cut and framed underneath one of them press photos I had of Mario fighting Gary Lupul of the Vancouver Canucks. That was Mario's first home game and I think his only fight in the NHL.

The Penguins acquired Wayne for the 1984-85 season. I was excited to see a former 50 goal scorer coming to Pittsburgh. Got this card signed outside the players entrance.

Another meeting and signature at the players entrance. Got a scoresheet signed which I still have. Now I just need to find a nice Troy Loney piece to go with the autograph for framing.

Doctor Who has probably been my favorite TV show since the early 70s. In 1986 WQEX a local public television station was showing Doctor Who and made arrangements to bring in the Doctor Who USA Tour to their studios. At that event I got meet Sarah Sutton, who you see in this card. She played Nyssa one of the Doctor's companions. She had a nice Q&A session followed by a nice meet and greet with the fans.
