99. 1995 National Parks Collection 1st Edition #6 Blue Ridge Parkway

Blue Ridge Parkway
Skyline Drive, Virginia

A birthday surprise for my wife (then girlfriend). I told her there was a diner just off the parkway that I wanted to visit. So we spent half the day driving on the parkway, stopping at all the overlooks. Then we went searching for the "Three Sisters" diner. We found a "Three Sisters" sign, but it was at a dirt road that led into the woods. I said, "This doesn't look right, but let's have a look." We weren't finding it and then saw a guy standing by the road. I told her to put her window down and ask him about the "diner". We stopped, he reached out and handed her a set of keys and said, "Happy Birthday, Aimee." She was totally puzzled until a few yards later a log cabin came into sight and I said "Happy Birthday."

I had rented an 1800's log cabin in the woods of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I planned the semi-elaborate surprise with the owners.

#31 jarred a memory as I remembered the .38 Special Tour with Night Ranger and had to dig out the ticket, low and behold Rainbow was the headliner when they played the IMA Sports Arena in Flint,MI....

Great list but I am pretty sure you can come up with alot more and I can't wait to see. Thanks for sharing

I'm assuming that the Saratoga performances were at SPAC? I've driven by it several times but have never actually been there. Great story on the Grand Canyon!

Cool list to go through. So much that I haven't seen or visited in here. I have seen Yankee Stadium (original) and the Biloxi Lighthouse from the highways that go right by them, but didn't get to go inside. I've been to Niagara Falls on many levels and from both sides of the border. I walked right by the Savvis Center when it was ScottTrade Center in 2013 and visited the Arch that same week (as well as Busch Stadium for a game). I would have loved to see Motley Crue and Pink Floyd in the 1980's! None of the bands/musicians I've seen are in your list. I've never been off the continent or farther south than the Gulf Coast of MS and never farther west than St. Louis, MO.

Outstanding list!  Yes that Grand Canyon tale was the best, you are an old romantic!

Fantastic list! I never even thought of a "Bands I've Seen List" for myself but now I'm inspired!

Wow Chuck.  I just saw the new additions in the middle.  I had no idea.  Kind of speechless here.

My parents are also down to only Alaska.  It's one of my six remaining.

I see you added a couple more that I've also visited. Cooperstown (in 2005 for me) and Blue Ridge Parkway. I've been to the parkway a few times but only in NC, not in VA

Fantastic list! I lived right next to the Erie canal for a couple of years in Rochester, N.Y.

I see that you added the Coors Brewery. As I'm sipping on a cold Coors Banquet now (my favorite beer for many years), I'd love to visit that one. You've been to NC but where are all the places you've visited here in this list? You have many lighthouses on the list and we have several. I know Cape Hatteras has some cards and I'm sure Biltmore Estates and the many military bases have some cards too.

EDIT: A card in this list finally showed up as one that I own. It's the meet-ups card with you & Billy.

@ spaz
The only sights I've seen/visited in NC don't have cards.  They were a diner in Boone and the real "Mayberry" & "Mount Pilot".  I've been to Asheville, but never went to the Biltmore.

The Brooklyn Bridge reminded me of our first visit to NY and it was without a GPS. We were looking for Grimaldi's Restaurant, which sits next to the bridge. My first interaction with a Brooklyn native was to ask for directions as she was unloading her groceries. She gave us directions,  but also strongly suggested I get a GPS.

Enjoyed the revisit. Got a little misty-eyed with the Grand Canyon story. Way to go on that!

I've seen the Doobie Brothers two or three times, but am jealous that you've gotten to see Elton John.

Chuck just when I thought you couldn't get any cooler I find this. I collect ticket stubs from most games, concerts or events I've been to but this was way cool. As you know ticket stubs are becoming obsolete. Great view of your history though.

Oh man, if I went through all my amateur photo albums ... yikes, what a project ... it's mostly hockey games with a smattering of other sports, Niagara Falls, Ford's Theater, San Diego aircraft carriers, Cape Kennedy, Little Hawk NC, The Who at JFK Stadium (1982), etc.  Amazing, you have John McGiver on your list ... he was a big-time TV guest star in Hollywood, but found enough time to be living in NY, too ... he was just on one of the retro channels this past Saturday in 'The Wild Wild West'.

Very cool!! Great imagination to combine life and cards. We even have some overlap. Now I want to do this, I guess I will start trading for some rock and roll cards. The meet up cards are very cool too.
