These were originally published in Oscar Combs' Big Blue Basketball Magazine, Spring 1991 (Volume 5 #1). Subscribers received the set in the center of the magazine as a sheet of 18 perforated cards.

Combs and Wildcat News published the Cats' Pause which was a source for UK basketball information for fans before the internet. The magazine was printed around four times a year and sometimes included cards, posters or photos as a bonus.

When these were printed they were also printed on heavier paper stock and were die-cut without the perforations. The die-cut versions were not released until after the players were out of college and are rarer than the perforated version.

The die-cut versions are not reprints. I saw them in-person before they were released while I was a University of Kentucky student who frequented The Cats' Pause retail store.

As far as I know this is Shaq's first trading card.
