Although banned from commenting on forum sections, apparently I can still comment on sets. As a Topps baseball card collector since 1987, I've decided to sell off all of my modern baseball cards because of 2016, 2017, and 2018 Topps. I collect today for the same reasons that I collected in 1987, and I can no longer do that with these soul-less releases. "What have you done for me lately" is evident with the incomplete statistics on the back. The "old folks get out" mentality is evident with the lack of manager and coaches cards. The team concept appears to have gone "out the door" with the lack of team cards. I'm going back to bubblegum cards.

Does anyone have a checklist for the exclusive Legend Plaque cards that come with the complete sets?

Hey Topps, what gives?
6 out of the 10 ASR, do not have the cup on the card.
I've been collecting this subset for years and this is not the first time this has happened, but it is the most players since 1979 and running to 1986 when there were no cups on the cards.
Don't get me started with the short print ASR's. Total PIA.

Some cards in this set have short print/variation cards which are actually found and are part of the 2017 Topps Update Set. However, they are numbered like they are from this set. If you are unable to see the Short Print/Variation Card you have listed in this set, it may be listed as part of the Series I & II Update Set Short Prints found here:

I don't mind the borderless cards, miscuts are less noticeable. Has everything on the front you could ask for and big enough for my old eyes. However, puzzling to me is the league leader cards. Why in the world would they not put the actual leaders image on them? Altuve not on the BA leader card is a disgrace.

Yesterday (2/8/17), I picked up my 2017 Topps S-1 jumbo box, lots of nice pulls as well as a lot of doubles. I pull a full set up to 350 except I was unable to pull any of those Ortiz cards except that 350 card he has a handful. I think, I can put together another 1-350 set (?) haven't looked through those doubles yet.

I pulled lots of inserts cards including pulling a Gorge Springer both patch and auto card. I wonder if other jumbo box will have both patch and auto cards together too overall, well worth my money at $120.99 per box. can't wait for S-2

I really like this new design and I believe having some players Twitter sign on the back of the cards is a first while other players do not have their Twitter call sign on the back is the card.

I do not like 72 insert sets I am still working on 6 years ago insert sets.

I do like the overall brake down on the insert sets.

Title: Borderless design fails to impress

I have a lot of problems with this card design. Starting with the front, I don't like the look of the angled team bar/logo. The design is especially stretched to its limit on horizontal cards, where everything looks flat. The design also takes on an inconsistent nature with Topps adding position designations on the horizontal cards that are not present on vertical cards. Topps is likely filling the Grand Canyon gap of blank space left by the horizontal cards. Topps even increases the font size on the horizontal cards but is still left with a lot of empty space.

Turning to the back, the lack of career starts is a huge negative. If there is any card that would have career stats, you would hope it would be flagship. Instead, Topps has truncated the stats to only the past 5 years. As a counter argument, people might say that you can easily look up stats on the internet. True. But you know what you can also look up on the internet? Social media handles! That's right, instead of full stats we get social media usernames for each player. *yawn*

Another issue with the backs is the full-color design. Topps has loosely color coded each back to the team's colors. However, all the red and blue backs look exactly the same, which is not a true representation of each team. When Topps uses a more specific color such as for the Mariners or Orioles, the colors stand out better. Otherwise, the backs are awash in a sea of sameness.

Noooooo! I don't even have any cards from this set yet, and I hate it. No full career stats? I love full career stats. I like looking through the whole progression, not just five years and a total. Now I'm looking forward to getting the set way less.
And with Gypsy Queen making all the HOFers shortprints, Topps is as close as ever to losing me.

3/20/17 -- Looked more closely now. So it's, what, three leaders cards per category? Unnecessary. Will the awards cards be part of the base set, or are they only inserts now? If you're going to have a hundred insert sets and special sets and parallel sets, at least let the base set be traditional and complete. I'm liking this less and less. But I'll buy the set in August. Then I'll complain even more about it.

7/19/17

And I'm back. I've looked through the entire set now, and my opinions haven't really changed. I'm fine with the borderless cards. The photography is beautiful, although I miss shots that are a little farther back, so you can see what's happening. I still hate World Series cards that only show the games the champs won. I don't like the three leaders cards per category, but skipping categories like saves and stolen bases. I miss the awards cards. I wish the team cards had an inset of the manager.

But mostly I hate the stats on the back. It's not even consistently five years. Sometimes it's two or three, especially if a player's been traded. It's ridiculous to see no mention of Ichiro ever playing for Seattle, for example. And for rookies, they show the minor league stats, but then tell me in the narrative that he was called up in August and impressed. So why not include those major leagues stats, too? Topps knows what they are. They have the room. I just hate it. The card should reflect the player's career.

At least there aren't Future Stars and Rookies and Prospects and Draft Picks. But there also aren't All-Stars or any other interesting subsets. Poor choices across the board.

I like the quality of the stock and photos, and 700 is a good number, but Topps could do so much better. Sigh.

Out of a hobby box I got today, the second pack I opened I had 2 # 172 Wilmer Flores - NY Mets cards in it.

Sad to see Topps decided to unretire #7 this year. What are your thoughts? Is Gary Sanchez worthy? Will Topps re-retire it next year? Will they ever come to an agreement with the Mantle family?

I'm used to Topps not being very fast with their transaction updates, but Yoenis Cespedes never received a (base) card in a Tigers outfit and yet they put Cameron Maybin in Series 1 as a Tiger when he was the very first transaction at the end of the year last year. About as frustrating as a Guido Knudsen card last year but not Alex Wilson or Dixon Machado or Bruce Rondon...

Sorry for the rant.

...looking forward to another great year in Topps baseball cards--especially with the 30 year commemoration of the legendary 1987 Topps set. I just wish they'd slow down a little with the early advertising, since I'm still waiting for the release of the 2016 Topps Update set next month.

Update: I can't believe this set includes partial career statistics. Bad move.
