really, the OD sets could use a few more different images. the traded/FA players in airbrushed unis are neat, but the rest of the set is pretty meh.

No wonder kids are sticking to Magic the Poke-gi-oh if this dull - and, worse, so completely devoid of FUN - "flagship design with penalty logo tacked on" nonsense is the best the monopoly can come up with. Topps just seems completely baffled at how to present a fun low-cost set for kids (and rip addicts too, let's be honest).

Donruss and even Uh-oh Deck had far, far better kid-centric sets back in the day, Topps just seems to be uncomfortably trying to play it safe between the main-set no-frills focus of Triple Play and the balls-to-the-wall insert bonanza of those legendary Fun Packs, succeeding at neither. Why would you have fun and silly inserts like Sock it to Me and Rally Time and then bury them at ridiculous 1:400+ odds to pull? Are ugly portraits of Tom Seaver with condescending text on the back informing the reader that Tom Seaver once liked to have fun (wow!!!!) supposed to fill kids with a sense of excitement, or just sedate them for naptime?

Year after year, Opening Day just continues to uninspire. If I were a kid, I'd much rather have a box of junk wax to sort through and giggle at the outdated hairstyles.
