best graphic design of the decade. fits the eighties perfectly.

Remember getting a pack at 7/11. Honestly, I was more enthralled by the sticker packs & album. Great year to start as an Orioles fan!

When I first got into collecting cards, I got a pack and, being a Twins fan, I got a #42 Rick Sofield and despite him only playing 3 years I was so excited about it because I thought it was like the oldest and greatest card in my collection even though I had no idea they made older cards and it was one of my first Twin cards. But no if you think about it, a card from '82 is 39 years old. *sighs*

I was not aware of the blackless parallels until recently

Whether through faulty pre-production work or the simple fact that the black ink may have run dry during printing, exactly half of the 1982 Topps cards can be found in a “blackless” version.

All cards on the set’s A, B and C press sheets can be found blackless.

On regular player’s cards the lack of black printing is most obvious in the absence of the facsimile autograph on front.

The thin black pinstripe around the player photo is also missing on those cards.

On cards in which the position was supposed to be printed in black, it will be missing on these variations.

All-Star cards affected by this error will be missing the player’s name. It is estimated fewer than 100 of each “blackless” card were released.

Originally cards from the A and B sheets were found in metro New York, while the C cards turned up most often in the Midwest.

Cards from the C sheet are much scarcer than those from the A and B sheets, although limited collector demand for full sets has kept prices in relative parity.

I have 100's of these that I bought every time I walked down to the drug store in Dry Ridge Ky back in '82 or so. Love the designs. I have 4 of the Ripken rookie cards!

This set is the 1st set I opened packs from as a kid

I received this set as a Christmas present and it was my very first complete set I owned. Cal Ripken Jr RC #21 made that set IMO. He has been my idle ever since I first saw him. Matter of fact he tied Gehrig's record on my birthday! I don't have the set anymore nor any of his RCs which I regret trading them away. I traded them for 6 1989 Ken Griffey Jr Upper Deck RCs, 2 1989 Donruss RCs, and 2 1989 Fleer RCs. I still have those today! They need to be graded but I would certainly trade Cal's RCs if anyone is interested. Anyway, that's my first experience with baseball cards.

This set is pretty loaded with Hall of Famers and is anchored by the Ripken rookie. I was able to get a set of these with a decent conditioned Ripken on eBay for $35. I'm happy for the find, but a little bummed at the value drop. I think the design is ok, but as a Dodger fan, I'm not sure why pink and purple are the key colors on their cards.

I didn't like the design of this card set and Topps in my opinion started to have a lot off years in terms of card design after this in my opinion but this set is extremely valuable as it features the Cal Ripken Jr. rookie where he is featured on the Orioles Prospects card set. Topps with this set started making individual cards for players who were named All Stars in addition to their regular cards instead of inserting an "All-Star" banner/insignia on their card.
