On July 3rd, 1970, in game one of a double header, Mike had his career day, batting 7th playing right field. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, facing San Diego Padres pitcher Clay Kirby, he hit a 2 run home run. In the bottom of the 3rd, a bases loaded walk. In the bottom of the 5th, a solo homer. In the bottom of the 7th, another solo homer, off of Gary Ross. His day: 3 for 3, 3 HRs, 5 RBIs, 3 runs scored, and a walk. Final score: Braves 8-Padres 1. On May 29th, 1978 with the Reds, his pinch 3 run homer broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the 8th inning against his former team, the Atlanta Braves, off of pitcher Rick Camp. Reds beat the Braves 7-5. His other pinch homer was hit off of HOFer Bruce Sutter on August 26th. |
