This was the first pack of cards that I remember opening as an 11 year old. I’m sure I opened something before it, but I don’t remember it. These I got in my stocking from “Santa” on Christmas morning and I was 11. I opened a die cut Barry Sanders and also had a Holoview Willie McGinest. Been collecting ever since! | ||
This was my second complete set. Oddly, it was one with an interesting history. While visiting my local hobby shop "Collectors Palace", I noticed at the back area of the store, several 500 card boxes. One was labeled '94 SP. As a novice to sports card collecting, I recalled my first complete set (2012 Upper Deck SP Authentic) had inserts of '94 SP. The owner and I pulled the set and we went through it. The first thing I noticed was that the owner was somewhat upset. He said; "Someone shoplifted the key card to the set, which was the Marshall Faulk card. Nevertheless he asked if I still wanted the set he would sell it to me for $10.00. I jumped at the chance and went home in a excited mood. Looking for the stolen card via the secondary market, I found several. Of course my choice was the most inexpensive card with free shipping, the sellar was a reputable card shop owner. In the end, I completed my set for a grand total of $12.50! I don't recommend that this is the way to collect complete sets, but on occasion, one needs to improvise. I recently added a Brett Favre die cut to this set, he is my all time favorite NFL QB! Now, if I can find a reasonable relic, auto of Favre!
