Card #18 - Shinichi Ishimaru was an ace pitcher for the Nagoya Team in Japan's professional baseball league from 1941 to 1943. On February 1944 he became a student naval pilot, joining the kamikaze corps a year later. On 11 May 1945 Ensign Ishimaru took off from Kanoya Air Base in an A6M5 Zero carrying a 500kg bomb and died in a special (suicide) attack off Okinawa. He was 22.
