Random Card of the Day

Thursday, June 20, 2013

Set: 1987 Fleer (Rate)

Card: #643 Outfielders with Punch (Harold Baines/Jesse Barfield)

“ I kind of miss the time when they would do random subsets with little stories about the players or teams. One of my big complaints about modern cards...some companies more than others...having endless pointless subsets. (IE, Press Pass wasting several cards on the NASCAR driver's astrological signs in 2004. Yes, really.) ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Barfield's hand on Baine's shoulder is by far the most uncomfortable part of this picture. This very uncomfortable-looking picture. ” -LuckyNumber78

“ Jesse's showing him a picture of a UFO. ” -UNC_Samurai

“ Actually those are outfielders with Sox and Bluejays. Not sure which city the "Punch" are with, though it would be a good nickname. ” -NJDevils

“ These 2 guys were among the best in baseball and surprisingly with all the talent on their teams never won a championship. ” -biggiofn7

“ Some of the best uniforms of the 80s on the same card! ” -jlaz10

“ Man I hate those Sox jerseys. ” -DanD

Set: 2012 Panini Cooperstown (Rate)

Card: #94 Jim Bunning

“ Kind of an odd layout...but not bad, just odd. I think they may have cropped a little too close on the picture though... ” -Billy Kingsley

“ I need my morning coffee; I'd swear that script says "Cooper's Colon". ” -UNC_Samurai

“ Definitely not a HOF card, maybe AA. ” -NJDevils

“ I like the nod to the banners hanging at the sides of the Hall of Fame on Induction Weekend. ” -jlaz10

“ Other base cards in this set look alright, but this one doesn't meet par ” -Hollywood42

“ This card looks terrible...if that's a patch of Bunning I'd be all for it...the name plate is interesting but give me a photo to enjoy... ” -SaveDaKid

Card: #C10 Shannon Stewart

“ The "Where is he now?" set. ” -suomibear8

“ Edit player attributes and set skill level to add to roster. Looks like the start to a video game. ” -biggiofn7

“ Certainly not Cream of the Cards ” -NJDevils

“ another Classic fail ” -bigsmooth

“ not liking the whole dark background and it being all blurry. ” -nohascome

“ The original Cream of the Crop? Brought back to life this year by Bowman ” -Hollywood42

“ By the uniforms this looks like a Blue Jays affiliate, but the sleeve numbers throw me off. ” -jlaz10

Set: 1994 Topps (Rate)

Card: #677 Eddie Guardado

“ Topps sure did go all out for this shot ” -Young Kilo

“ It's funny how, after ignoring most of the major sports cards that didn't interest me, now from being on the Database every day I am starting to recognize sets so much that I don't even need to read the info about it to see what set it's from. I think that's pretty cool. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ This was always one of my favorite designs Topps had during the 90's. Too bad it was overproduced. ” -bigsmooth

“ Some more Twins love! Gotta pay respects to one of the best closers in team history ” -Hollywood42

“ The Twins old road grays should have gotten a lot more respect than they did. It takes a lot to look good in pinstripes, nevermind in gray? ” -jlaz10

Set: 1991 Topps - Desert Shield (Rate)

Card: #117 Dion James

“ Ahh, Topps and their fascination with Desert Storm. Not sure what this has to do with the Gulf War, but that doesn't seem to matter to Topps, lol. On that note, I'm one card short of the three combined sets they did documenting the war...which is extra annoying because I bought a box and got as many as 4 copies of some of the cards, but none of the one missing one... ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Was this a real Indians player, or one from the movie "Major League"? ” -wamk

“ The old pullover BP jerseys don't actually look as bad as they sound. ” -jlaz10

“ Damn Desert Sheild...gotta not get me some of these...Dion looks like he just found out he could have saved a crap load of money if he had switched to Geico... ” -SaveDaKid

“ The stats on the back include "Fowl Balls". ” -UNC_Samurai

Set: 1973-74 O-Pee-Chee (Rate)

Card: #50 Bobby Clarke

“ Cool card design! Early for a color border too, basketball didn't get colored borders at all during the classic Topps run. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Takes me back to the days when hockey was a lot more physical and exciting. ” -biggiofn7

“ If there was ever a card design that screamed "70's!!", this is it! ” -wamk

“ The old Flyers and Blues jerseys were classics. It's great the Flyers brought them back, but the Blues need to reconsider. ” -jlaz10

“ One of my favourite sets of all time & one of the feircest ,toughest leaders of all time.I love the "action" cards ” -uncaian

“ Ahh the good old days when helmets were not worn. Back when they had the wind flowing through their flow. ” -eyoung11

“ The blue jays light blue roads were beautiful. More teams should bring this back. ” -jlaz10

Set: 2006 Topps Turkey Red (Rate)

Card: #357 Chris Shelton

“ Turkey is best with cracked pepper edges and on a sandwich with Provolone and least in my book :) These cards didn't do much for me. The faux-blurry really hurt them. At one time I believed that a pack of the basketball issue was going to be my final pack of NBA basketball was, from 2006-10, but I'm back into it now. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Really? This is the best quality scan we can get? This looks like an albino Smurf brandishing a rifle. ” -Luckynumber78

“ Apparently the card scanning policy now allows oil-on-canvas reproductions. ” -UNC_Samurai

“ Why? ” -Colts12

“ Looks old. Can't even read what it says up the top ” -eyoung11

“ This set is a turkey alright. ” -NJDevils

“ The Tigers home whites are arguably the most distinguishable in sports, other than the Yankees pinstripes and Red Sox piping. ” -jlaz10
