Set: 1988 Kenner Starting Lineup Cards (Rate)

Card: #44 Tony Gwynn

“ First time I've seen a Starting Lineup card as Card of the Day...I know there are some years not even on the Database yet, finding a checklist is next to impossible, and even when you can, it's for the figures only, not the cards, which some years actually carried a number system. The NBA cards from 1988, the first year, had a blue border where this one is orange. I only have a handful of the 1988 figures, 2 or 3 I think. And I think only one of them came with the card, but I have not scanned mine yet so I have not posted them to the Database. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ There were two versions of Tony Gwynn. This is the skinny Tony. The other version looked like someone had eaten Tony Gwynn. ” -deporcoruña

“ This is what modern looked like in the 80's. I didn't even had to look at the year of release on this one. They even saved a few buck by printing with only one color on the back, but don't get me wrong I like this card. ” -xv3thekid

“ My grandmother was pretty pessimistic whenever the Padres were in a close game, except when Tony Gywnn was due up. And, most of the times, he didn't disappoint. ” -volbox

“ Nice Padres pinstripes. ” -jlaz10

Set: 1992 Pro Set (Rate)

Card: #437 Steve Christie

“ Good photo, good card back. I like Pro Set. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ I never understood why they radically changed the design between sets 1 and 2. Of course, I think the company may have been dealing with bankruptcy and a federal investigation at the time. A real shame - from 1989-1991, their cards were the best anyone was printing, even with the long list of typos and errors. ” -UNC_Samurai

“ Making sure he NEVER goes wide right ” -jackal726

Set: 1979 Minnesota Twins Postcards (Rate)

Card: #24 Bombo Rivera

“ I don't like how the white stripe in the middle of the black and red stripes is different widths on the sleeve and on the waist, but i guess i can't argue with the spiritually uplifting way they typeset "POSTCARD" on the back. ” -revnorb

“ I love the postcard and the name "Bombo"...I do wish I had a set of these! ” -bkklaos

“ Welcome to BomboCard, where the only limit is your batting average. ” -UNC_Samurai

“ The Twins had the best script in the bigs. They've brought it back for a throwback alternate, but I don't think that's enough. ” -jlaz10

“ Cool first name ” -Young Kilo

Set: 2001 Playoff Contenders (Rate)

Card: #33 Antonio Freeman

“ Interesting concept. Needs more stats. I'm normally not a fan of cards where the background has been messed with, but it works when it's a ticket based theme, at least for me it does. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ He did WHAT?!? ” -UNC_Samurai

“ Great card. Nice use of the team colors. Topps should hire this designer. ” -NJDevils

“ I liked this idea a lot better when Fleer did it for baseball with Authentix The back has a bit too much dead space. ” -marcbrubaker

“ My second full scan (both football). I'm taking this one as an "omen"...I've been in a football pool for years where you get a randomly drawn NFL team...if that team scores "33" points (the number of this card), whether they win or lose, you win the progressive pot, with anything in the pot at the end of the year going to the person that has the Super Bowl winner. I had the "New York Football Giants" last year...ouch! Additionally, this morning during my workout, I heard "Just Got Lucky - JoBoxers" (one of my favorite songs)...another "omen"? Not sure if good or bad "omens" and I'm not superstitious, but my fingers are crossed for this years upcoming pool (it's been a long time since I have won anything)! ” -bkklaos

“ Different but yet still not a fan. ” -addysdaddy

“ The Packers unis actually look better with the Nike templates. ” -jlaz10

Set: 1984 O-Pee-Chee (Rate)

Card: #76 Alfredo Griffin

“ Great 80s design. I could not think of anything I could improve on this design. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ The 1984 Blue Jays lineup was perhaps the tastiest in AL East history, with Alfredo Griffin at short, Rice Mulliniks at third, Damango Garcia at second, and George "Taco" Bell in the outfield. ” -UNC_Samurai

“ Who bleached the back of his uniform? ” -addysdaddy

“ Excellent back on the card. Could use a crisper version though, anyone have one? ” -NJDevils

“ This is my scan. O Pee Chee were never really high quality cards. Basically the same set as the Topps, but often had more Blue Jays and Expos thrown in. ” -Mike67

“ Damn I wish the Jays could compete again. ” -DanD

Set: 1979 Lipton Tea New England Tea Men (Rate)

Card: #6 Peter Simpson

“ The best thing about this card is the team (?) logo on the back...I am a big fan of sailing ships... ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Ha! ” -Young Kilo

“ Is this card set to commemorate each person's signature pitcher of tea? I like mine without lemon and semi sweet. ” -addysdaddy

“ Now this is a card I will never likely own and if not for this site, likely would have never seen! But I love it! Cheers to Lipton for producing and Gunny for posting! ” -bkklaos

“ Soccer player? Oh wait just looked at the back. ” -uncaian

“ UMBRO!!! Soccer, America's sport of the future since 1972!!! ” -SaveDaKid

“ This is so perfectly 70's. ” -marcbrubaker

“ I like the subtle Umbro logo underneath the collar. ” -jlaz10

“ My first comment for RCOD and it's a soccer card.... ” -CoachBarry

Set: 1989 Upper Deck (Rate)

Card: #361 Keith Moreland

“ I like this design. First UD set if I remember correctly. Would still be a few years before they came into the NBA, and a few more years beyond that that I would discover the NBA's existence. I like the earlier UD sets better, simply because they are large sets. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ I really disliked the layout of UD's card backs. They were one of the first companies to provide limited stats on the back, which as a kid I found incredibly annoying. ” -UNC_Samurai

“ Hey, UD, pictures on the front and stats on the back, please. Do not need an excess of photos. Again, dont like turning the card to read the stats. ” -NJdevils

“ Nice brown and orange Padres. ” -jlaz10

“ What a brown card. ” -marcbrubaker

“ Nice set with decent photo quality. Moreland was a blast to watch at Wrigley. ” -SYTopps

Set: 1987 Topps Mini Leaders (Rate)

Card: #28 Von Hayes

“ I really like this design. The whole concept of documenting the previous season's statistical leaders is always something I appreciate in cards. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Didn't need such a big border on such a small card. Good set for little kids. Think back to when you were seven and your hands were too small to hold more than just a few cards, if that. Probably why my oldest cards have creases. ” -NJdevils

“ He needs to open up his stance a little bit. ” -wamk

“ Such a wee little card. Get inside my collection!!! ” -addysdaddy

“ I hated off-size cards, mini or big. I tried to avoid collecting anything that didn't fit or was way too loose in a standard 9-pocket page. ” -UNC_Samurai

“ The Phillies powder blues were some of the best road unis ever. The light blue went so well with their dark red. ” -jlaz10

“ On X-mas 1988, I got a Topps box that had a binder, ten 9-pocket pages -which didn't age well-, a bunch of 1988 Topps (c. 100), along with two things I had never seen: a price guide and a few packs of 87 Minis. ” -volbox

Card: #15 Craig Lefferts

“ Mother's produced a nice little set. I was lucky enough to get some Astros sets from a friend in Houston. The photo quality doesn't show on this scan. ” -NJdevils

“ He was the one who FINALLY hit Pascual Perez in the epic Padres-Braves brawl in '84. ” -volbox

“ I always liked borderless cards. ” -suomibear8

Set: 1997 Topps (Rate)

Card: #319 Terry Pendleton

“ looks like an "E5" on the way ” -SSG Temple

“ It's a shame he shared the same position as Chipper, because Terry often gets overlooked when discussing that great Braves run. Dude was money in that great World Series against Minnesota in 1991. ” -UNC_Samurai

“ I like the design...simple yet effective. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Another no-show by the Topps creative staff. ” -NJdevils

“ Interesting how his name looks radially arched. The Braves had vertically arched nameplates up until 2005. ” -jlaz10

“ TP! We used to have drinking games centered around TBS catching him adjusting his cup. Those were the days... ” -jackal726
