“ Looks like it was cut out of the local newspaper. ” -suomibear8

“ This guy might have been partially responsible for the Cy Young Award being split and awarded in each league. The last season one award was given across both leagues (1966), he had an amazing 25-13 season with an AL-leading 19 complete games...but the Cy Young that year unanimously went to Sandy Koufax (who was in his last season and went 27-9 in the NL). ” -UNC_Samurai

“ Kaat played from 1959-1983 with the Senators, Twins, White Sox, Phillies, Yankees and Cardinals. Career Stats: 283 wins, 237 Losses, 3.45 ERA and 2,461 Strikeouts. He was a 3x All-Star, 16x Gold Glove Awatd Winner, AL Wins Champion (1966) and won a World Series in 1982 with the St. Louis Cardinals. Following his baseball career, Kaat became a very distinguished MLB broadcaster. ” -carthage44

 Funny story-

I was at the FanFest for the All-Star game in St.Louis in 2006. ESPN had a booth where they were doing live shows. I noticed Jim Kaat sitting off to one side. He was just sitting there watching people walk around, not appearing to be doing anything, except maybe relaxing and drinking a cup of coffee. I decided to get his autograph for a buddy of mine that is a huge Twins fan, unfortunately I only had a flair pen, not ink. (Suggestion: never have a baseball autographed with anything other than an ink pen.) I noticed two guys off to one side standing and talking. One guy had 3-4 pens in his shirt pocket. I walked over and asked him if I could borrow a pen. Obviously he was more than a little confused. The guy's back was to Kaat, and right then I noticed Kaat pick up his cup and start to rise. I reached over and took a pen out of the guys pocket and hurried over. Mr. Kaat was very nice and signed the baseball for me, but then put the pen in his coat pocket. I had to ask him for the pen back. I'm not sure who had a more startled look on their face, the guy whose pen I grabbed, or Jim Kaat when I asked for the pen back.  I returned the pen and the two guys hurried over and asked Kaat for an autograph also.

Oh, I forgot- I always make sure I have at least one ballpoint pen now when I go out.
