Year: 1969

Set: Topps (Rate)

Card: #208 Donn Clendenon

“ They shouldn't have cropped so close, it looks silly with his name and team box superimposed over part of his head. Otherwise, a fine card. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Another ERR/VAR card! How sweet! ... the best part of card collecting is searching for the errors & variations. U gotta try it? ~BOB~ ” -BOBSCARDZ

“ I always loved the fun cartoon drawings on the back with the tidbits of info about the players! ” -bkklaos

“ Simple be effective design. Absolutely love the back of the card. ” -carthage44

“ Great back of card. Nice absence of company name on front, I think. ” -NJDevils

“ Interesting card. Clendenon was drafted from the Pittsburgh by the Expos in the 1968 espansion draft. He was then traded to the Astros, but refused to report and a few months later was then traded to the Mets. So he is pictured here with Houston (with whom he never played), in an airbrushed Pirates uniform while he was actually a member of the Expos. ” -DaClyde

“ Another Curt Flood type deal - traded to the Astros, but didn't report. Not a bad design for the card, but not my favorite of the 1960s. Other than the horizontal 1960 set (not a fan of horizontal cards), it's down there. Still better than 95% of the designs since 1985! ” -vrooomed

“ One of the simplest front card design I've seen. Yet still very affective. I gotta say that I'm not a big pink salmon fan though, for the back. ” -JimStaub

“ Obviously still in a Pirates uniform due to the black and gold piping, but why wouldn't you just leave the P on the helmet? It looks odd blank. ” -jlaz10

The Houston cards didn't have logos in the late 60's because of Monsanto and a trademark dispute with its Astroturf.

First cards I collected as a ten year old. Spent entire summer chewing the gum.

I had a hell of a time trying to find a nice centered 1967 card of him.

First cards I collected as an eight year old. Unfortunately I wrote my name on the back of most of them so my younger brother couldn't claim they were his. Including two card #500's, Mickey Mantle.  Tried to piece together a set when I started collecting again in 1978. In 1981 I bought a complete set for $150 and worried about how I was going to pay for my ($500) college tuition due in 2 weeks.

Dont feel bad, KCJays,  I have mentioned this before that as a six year old in 1957, I decide that my idol, Yogi Berra, would look better with a beard and glasses, thus I took my marking pen gave him one.  1957 Topps.  Did the same with Frank Robinson.  I still have the cards.  When I find them, I will display them here.    hey, the backs are mint!
