“ Not a bad design. Simple, yet effective. An actual photo is always appreciated. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ This set was considered rare by the standards set in the late 80s and early 90s. I liked the design on the front. Wasn't a fan of the silver all the way on the back, but otherwise not bad for the vertical format. ” -vrooomed

“ What makes many sets since 1990 (or earlier?) bad is the blurring of the backgrounds. I dont know if it is for legal reasons or what. ” -NJDevils

“ I was surprised to see that I dont own this card. Haven't had a COTD that was in my collection in a long time. The streak continues. Nice looking card, by the way. ” -switzr1

“ Nice card from a nice set and it's the O's. I think I have some of these don't recall. I really really need to organized my cahoard (Card Hoard) ” -captkirk42

“ The classic O's script shown in this uni just didn't look right without their classic cartoon bird. ” -jlaz10

“ A very valuable set. ” -carthage44

The background blurring is caused by using a long range lens with a small focal region (I can not remember the exact word for this technology, but it is a common lens for sporting events). I liked the variety of photos in this set, mostly action on front and head shots on the back. Reasonably good writing and accuracy on the back as well.

Euklid, the "focal region" you're referring to is called depth-of-field.  The depth-of-field is affected by aperture (lens opening) and focal length (basically the length of the path the light takes inside the lens).

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

The good news is that i remember Joe Orsulak, the bad news is that i can't believe it has been 25  years since this card was issued.  I think i just aged myself.  I remember seeing these cards fresh out of the packs.
