Card: #NNO Stan Bahnsen

“ I see he is a pitcher...so, if he throws a really hot ball, would it be a Bahnsen Burner? Sorry, that's too corny even for me! ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Wow....never seen these before....always nice to see something new. Would be better if they had something on the back....but I imagine they were cut-outs from the back of the box. ” -tbshaw

“ Stan the bahn. A very bland chalky looking card. But what else can you expect from a bland chalky candy. ” -parsley24

“ I wish I liked Milk Duds back then. ” -NJDevils

“ Love these. Back in the day I had a few. Those cards were lost to time. A few years back I got my full box of Hondo the first graded card/product I purposefully bought or acquired. I have 4 graded cards 2 I had gotten from trades or giveaways from traders and the other 2 I bought on purpose. ” -captkirk42

“ Not a fan of Milk Duds but I would have been if you got cards in them like this. ” -carthage44

“ If this was a card that had to be cut off of a box of Milk Duds, someone did a pretty good job... ” -BlueJays77

“ The perfect Random Card of the Day. It's baseball, it's a Yankee, and it's a card I collected when I was a kid. It doesn't get better than that. ” -jayoneill

“ Good player, good candy, good card. What’s not to like? ” -IfbBirdsCards

“ This would be awful, but given it is from what I guess is a Milk Duds box 47 years ago, I think it is pretty cool. I mean, what could you expect from a 47 year old Milk Duds box? ” -muskie027

“ I have been expanding my collection into all sorts of random vintage sets. This will not be one of them. Blah. ” -Vvvergeer

“ Love seeing some older promo cards ” -Bargunmaster

Can't recall whether or not we had Milk Duds back in that time up here in Canada though that could just be the "foggy memory" playing tricks. Maybe a fellow "canuck" could shed more light on that. Typical looking card for the era I suppose and since I collected everything at one time might have stashed some away.

Stan Bahnsen was the American League Rookie of the Year in 1968 and started 42(!) games for the White Sox in 1973.

It always amazes me when I read old newspaper articles how some of the most bizarre items get reported so casually.  Take for example this article from the June 25th, 1970 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

Pinson Lands Haymaker On Bahnsen

NEW YORK, June 24 (AP) -- Vada Pinson, Cleveland left fielder, decked New York Yankee pitcher Stan Bahnsen with a left hook after a play at the plate in the fifth inning of today's second game of a doubleheader.

Following the fight, Cleveland catcher Ray Fosse was injured when struck on the right foot by a firecracker thrown from the stands in the bottom of the fifth.

I've heard of this guy. I have a 1980 Topps card of him when he was with the Expos.

Pretty sure I recall seeing these back then. Daddy used to eat Milk Duds quite often. There was no way they would let me save a box. I tried with stuff toys came in, and got grief for it.

Whenever someone makes reference to milk duds, this is what I think about:

-------------------------------

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.
