Year: 1997

Set: Ultra (Rate)

Card: #256 Curt Schilling

“ I really like this and I have not seen it before. The back is cool too. Thumbs up. Heck, two thumbs up. A great pitcher too. ” -muskie027

“ Love the front of these cards. Back of the cards are too cluttered. ” -KMack

“ This design is my all time favorite in trading card history. The NBA set with this design is my all time favorite set. Sadly, I have not completed it yet even though I've been trying since it was new! ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Irony - 2003 Ultra on the home page when this is up for review. What a difference. I really like this Ultra set. I like the use of the holographic foil and the photos were very nice. Full MLB stats are just the icing on the cake. This could very well be the next set added to my collection. And of course, this particular card is fantastic. A Phillie, who might just make the HOF (valid points from both sides). ” -vrooomed

“ Fleer Ultra on a day when a Fleer Ultra is the Card of the Day not just the "write one" card. Curt Shilling to me will always be an Oriole, that is the team he started on and I first got cards of him from. This is one of the more likable Ultra designs but I wish the font for the name was not script, some players names are hard to read. It is also similar to another year where they just had the last name in a script font. Back is pretty good but I never like the messy having a photo with a photo background. I prefer the old fashioned vintage full stats a brief bio with the ID info and a relevant cartoon. Oh and using either the raw cardboard white, or gray as the background color. ” -captkirk42

“ Great looking card. The team names get bunched a bit when they are longer, but a great looking card. Simple, let the photo do the work. I would say my only complaint is the white shadow on the stats on the back. Very difficult to read. Sad. On an otherwise great looking card. ” -parsley24

“ While not my favorite Ultra set, I think this one gets forgotten a lot. I would make a few changes on the back, but at least it has three different photos. ” -jupiterhill

This is still one of my favorite Ultra designs! I love everything about this set. Great designs on the front and back with team and position on the front and team logo on the back, full stats on the back and 3 different pics on the card. And some holofoil on the front to catch your eye. What's not to like about it?

He was a great pitcher. Not so great of a business man. He still owes the state of Rhode Island a few million from loans to start a video game company that Curt tried and failed at. blush

This is the last set I actually completed (save inserts).  While I liked the fronts, the backs were and still are too hard for me to read.  The multi-pose pictures were good, though.
